RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Last year, 23-year-old Rashida Hill watched the presidential debates, visited the college political party meetings and put a Barack Obama bumper sticker on her townhouse door. She voted for Obama because she felt like the election was about "being a part of something."
But on Tuesday, the Virginia Commonwealth University student didn't bother voting in the governor's race because, she said, the candidates didn't give her anything to get excited about.
"The simple fact is, unless you put it in front of somebody, they're really not going to seek it out," Hill said.

Interesting.
Yep, I mocked people like this after the election.
They wanted to "vote for the cool black guy" and "be a part of history", regardless of how destructive putting him in power would be.
No free Bruce Springsteen or Radiohead or Decemberists concert.
The White House desparately needs this meme: it’s not that voters turned on us, it’s that our people didnt show up.
Baloney.
They got their first paycheck while working part-time in college and asked “What’s this FICA?!!!”
Facile and vapid voters are better off not voting. That way the rest of us won’t be as likely to strangle them for their stupidity
If Corzine had hired Springsteen, he would have won
Couldn’t tear themselves away from the bong and that bag of Doritos.
Indeed. I saw this the whole time in line at my polling place that fateful day. And the stupid cretins did not even vote on any other items on the agenda, just President and finish so you could get back to the apartment and the bong.
15 minutes of fame. The hype cannot be sustained.
“Rashida Hill” hummm...
They found 1 anyway.
You really think the majority of them get a paycheck?
Perhaps she was one of those Obama voters who thought that he would fill her car with gas. Now she is completely puzzled as to why her car has been unable to start for the last 11 and a half months.
Be happy they didn’t screw up the down-ballot races....
We're history all right ... or will be ... if Obama gets his way for 8 years.
So the Black voters on the Democrat plantation aren’t going to come out on election day unless they can vote for a Black, or even a half-Black, candidate. The Democrats richly deserve this after stoking the fires of racial politics all these years.
Yep
They all wanted the Kodak Moment
Translation: ACORN's pimp/hooker scandal kept them from manufaturing the votes they did in 2008.
“Couldnt tear themselves away from the bong and that bag of Doritos.”
Or, pehaps Mom and Dad explained to them that if Obama Care goes through they’ll be on their own when it comes to their health care. What a scary thought to this generation - being on their own - for anything...
I tell them that they voted to pay for my future health care out of their future earnings and that the boomers only needed a suitable set of suckers to stick with the bills. And, of course, there they were!
Ahhh yes...the “entertainment” generation! If it isn’t entertaining, it isn’t worth their time!
That’s what makes a collectivist, of the “sheep” variety anyway -
the fear/knowledge that there is no way you could survive on your own without forcing others to take care of your needs.
I imagaine a large percentage of those who stayed home yesterday are disillusioned ‘09 grads looking for work. They fall into that 52% unemployed bracket. Looks like their Messiah didn’t come through for them. Hope they see the light for the next election.
A comment on a thread I made last night:
which had been trending leftward and just last year was held up as an example of how Obama was redrawing the political map in his favor.
I really do hate to bring race into this, but these people are mistaken that they believe the people had turned Democrat all of a sudden. Sure, there were a good many who were sick of Bush, or believed the media on how incompetent they made him out to be. But a good many were people who have never voted before, and probably will never again, that wanted to vote for history.
“Or, pehaps Mom and Dad explained to them that if Obama Care goes through theyll be on their own when it comes to their health care. What a scary thought to this generation - being on their own - for anything...”
Isn’t that the truth!
True. It was just disheartening to listen to them and they were clueless about anything other than the defining moment of proving they were not racists. They knew no other names or races anyway.
Let’s hope they think it’s uncool when 2012 comes around and they don’t all crawl back out from under their rocks.
“Being part of something” means voting for the first black president. So Obama’s skin color was the reason this person voted. Issues didn’t matter.
Make it uncool.
And I bet the young voters who turned out last year for McCain still got to the polls yesterday.
I wanted the "Kodiak" moment:
Precisely.
If it takes it, I would donate some money for a Wii and some weed. Then they will be all Wii-weed up when it’s time to vote.
“Or, pehaps Mom and Dad explained to them that if Obama Care goes through theyll be on their own when it comes to their health care. What a scary thought to this generation - being on their own - for anything.”
Yeah, we young people are terrible, worthless and useless eaters.
Maybe we should have euthanasia for the young?
How about giving us a damn chance for once? Seriously, you weren’t born old, and I bet you someone took a chance on you back in the day.
She wasn’t excited about their skin color I suppose.
Cute.
she said, the candidates didn’t give her anything to get excited about.
“Did not give her.”

Perhaps the reason why they didn't turn out to vote is they were still waiting in line for their Obama Money
