A group of illegal immigrants from two East African nations and and two Asian nations are expected to face a federal judge Monday morning.

Border Patrol agents caught the eight immigrants near Brownsville over the Halloween weekend.

Court records show Border Patrol agents caught three Eritrean immigrants after they allegedly crossed the Rio Grande on Friday.

Another group of immigrants from Nepal, China and Ethiopia was caught early Sunday morning after they waded across the Rio Grande late Saturday night.

Court records identified the immigrants as:

Goitom Messazgi-Araya (Eritrea) Tedros Ghide-Ketema (Eritrea) Merhawi Zemichael-Gebremedhn (Eritrea) Salikram Bishwokarma (Nepal) Yu Gao (China) Wenxia You (China) Ming Ming Ou (China) Damench Hailu-Yifru (Ethiopia)

The eight immigrants are expected to appear before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Monday morning.

Regional Border Patrol Spokesman John Lopez said agents have encountered immigrants from 72 nations other than Mexico.

Lopez said these other-than-Mexican immigrants end up in the Rio Grande Valley based on the smuggling arrangments they make in Mexico.

I don’t understand why they are worried about them. They let everyone else in. I wouldn’t be surprised if they hollered discrimination.

And didn’t we always know it wasn’t just poor Mexicans looking for a better life and who wanted to do the jobs Americans didn’t want to do.

That is EXACTLY where the locals/environmentalist whackos put up a big fight about the fence, and where small portions of it the BP wanted have not been built yet. There are gaps. So right now it is “fence, fence, no fence, fence, no fence” etc.

More Chinese, I see. We’re reading about dozens of them coming over the border lately. China is sending an army, courtesy of Mexico.

Manhunt ends in suspect’s capture

October 29, 2009
Jose Vazquez-Becerra ran, but he couldn’t hide.

A local law enforcement chase of Vazquez-Becerra, 17, a resident of Ciudad Acuña, Coah., Mexico, began about 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to Texas DPS Lt. Byron Martin.

Martin said a DPS trooper attempted to stop the brown 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck Vazquez-Becerra was allegedly driving on U.S. Highway 90 near its “Y” intersection with U.S. Highway 277 just north of Del Rio.

The truck sped away south, entering the Del Rio city limits and careening across the median just south of the National Park Service administrative offices.

The truck crashed through a barbed-wire fence onto a private ranch on the east side of U.S. Highway 90, just south of its intersection with Quail Road.

There, Vazquez-Becerra, who Martin said was the sole occupant of the truck, bailed out and began running through the brushy scrub.

Duffle bags and sacks containing bundles of marijuana were discovered in the bed of the abandoned pickup. Martin said the marijuana recovered from the truck weighed a total of 338 pounds.

An hour-long manhunt for the teen ensued, involving members of the Texas Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Border Patrol, National Park Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office and Del Rio Police Department.

Martin said Vazquez-Becerra has been charged with the offense of possession of marijuana, more than 50 pounds, less than 2,000 pounds, a second-degree felony.

Undercover sting used to cite, deport Carlsbad day laborers

Police say the workers create traffic hazards along El Camino Real

n a new twist, Carlsbad police have adopted an old tactic to bust day laborers: undercover sting operations similar to those used against street prostitutes.

The undercover stings and the anti-solicitation law that police have been using to cite the workers have opened a legal can of worms.

Other cities in the county and in the country that have tried to regulate day laborers have run into similar problems: How do you restrict day laborers without running afoul of their right to seek work?

Police say they are simply trying to address a safety problem. It’s dangerous for drivers to stop on busy roads to pick up the workers, Carlsbad police Capt. Neil Gallucci said.

But migrant rights advocates say they see a more sinister purpose. It’s simply the latest scare tactic used by the city to get rid of day laborers, whom some residents consider an eyesore.

Border Patrol agents arrest man wanted for sex crimes

Times Herald

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a man with an outstanding warrant for sex crimes out of Oregon Wednesday.

Romeo police officers were called by Child Protective Services after officials took custody of the man’s 10-year-old daughter for a pending domestic investigation about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a statement from the U.S. Border Patrol.

The man did not have any identification on him and only spoke Spanish. Officers transported him to the Romeo Police Station and U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Marysville Station were called in to assist with the translation.

The man stated he was from Mexico and that he was a lawful permanent resident of the United States. The agents transported the subject to the Marysville Station to clarify his identity and to validate his immigration status. Agents fingerprinted and ran records checks on the subject where it was revealed that Virginio Medrano-De La Torre had an outstanding warrant in Oregon for sex crimes.

Bush did more than anyone in my lifetime to encourage illegal immigration.

Kind of hard for them boys to blend into the local population and pretend they’re citizens! They’d have to go much further to the safety of anonymity in a city than the usual immigrants. Probably don’t have great Spanish language skills, either . . .
