Pardon my ignorance, but what is a ‘Ping’?

A ping is a notification function here.

It can be for courtesy when mentioning a member or as a means of alerting you to a specific topic you have expressed interest in. I highly recommend pinging someone if you mention them in a post.

You can ping someone by typing their name in the “To” field when posting a comment. Use semicolons ; to separate names in that field if you want to ping multiple recipients.

If you are interested in the topic just posted ask GodGunsGuts to add you to his ping list.

If you receive a ping you will see a notification along the top of the page. You can also click on the little speaker icon at the top of the page. That will open up a pop up window that gives a visual and sound notification if you receive a ping or private message.
