A Massachusetts man was fired from a national retail corporation because of his traditional beliefs on same-sex marriage. Peter Vadala was formally dismissed from his job as second deputy manager of the Brookstone store at Bostons Logan Airport on August 12, 2009, after a supervisor reported him to Human Resources regarding an incident two days earlier.

So now in certain parts of the country (for which I won't spend a dime) one cannot even believe something different than sodomite “marriage”?

Yes. Now this is going to be interesting, because, of course, there are religions in the US that actually do want to curtail the rights of women and people who are gay. Eventually these religious believers will collide with the stifle free speech/free thought community. Which one gets to be the protected class then?

harassed by in-your-face lesbians and then fired is beyond the pale In 1996 I was fired from a small company because of a conflict with my flaming-gay boss. It seems he was uncomfortable with my "family-oriented" attitude. We could not travel together because we would spend hours together in the car and all he wanted to talk about was sex (this guy was a sex obsessed pervert) and I didn't want to. Since he was an owning partner in the firm there wasn't much to do about it.

Peter did not immediately react, but when the manager sensed Peters discomfort with the subject of same-sex marriage, the woman apparently continued bringing it up to Peter throughout the day, reiterating that she was getting married to another woman. Finally, after the fourth or fifth time she brought it up, Peter remarked that his Christian beliefs did not accept same-sex marriage. At that point the woman became very angry and bluntly told Peter that he needed to get over it and said that she would be immediately contacting the Human Resources department. A few hours later Peter was notified by a Human Resources representative that he was suspended from work without pay, effective immediately. Two days later, on August 12, after some further interaction with the Human Resources department, he was formally notified that he was terminated from the company.
Isnt this special?

here we go, i know i am gonna get flamed for this one...company policy was very specific here, and this guy was stalked by a manager to get a reaction from him...yes, he was played politically, but the correct response when confronted on the issue would have been “ your personal business is your personal business, and i do not wish to hear about your personal life” and having said that, any further contact from the supervisor would be considered harassment, with her and the company liable in a lawsuit. this kid ( and he is a kid, with no way of knowing what was about to hit him ) broke company policy. his termination, although severe, is justified.

“A female manager from another store was in the store and began talking to Peter about her upcoming marriage.”
Sounds like she set him up and unfortunately he took the bait. I’ve noticed that drug addicts, alcoholics and sexual deviants do this all the time. They will nudge conversations in a certain direction with people they don’t know in an attempt to find out if that person is “one of them”.
The correct response should have been “good luck”. Now, if this person had asked his opinion and he gave it and still got fired. A civil rights law suit might be in order.

Interesting angle. One wonders if the same outcome would have ensued had the response been that such “marriages” were incompatible with his Islamic beliefs?

If he is telling the whole story, then he has a case. She brought it up, repeatedly, then finally confronted him. If he simply said that his Christian beliefs didn't accept homosexual "marriage" and that was the end of his contribution, then he is in the right, even in Fagachussettes.

This guy needs to sue the "F" out of the company for 1st amendment violation, and employment violations. The thought police needs to be shut down bluntly! Ahh, but same-sex marriage is legal in Mass, giving the employer now grounds to declare language opposed to legal norms "hostile" in the private workplace. First Amendment arguments are now more difficult.
Conservatives not wanting to join the battles of cultural warfare must take note of this. It is not enough to say, "I don't care for gay marriage myself, but what is it to me if the state allows gay marriage. It won't affect me."
It will affect you, as the Brookstone case illustrates. Another place where this will have a huge secondary effect is in the public schools, where teachers in states with special homosexual rights laws will now be COMPELLED to teach and indoctrinate a pro-homosexual world view, and students will be COMPELLED to echo that view, and FORBIDDEN to voice contrary views.
Homosexual rights laws have sweeping effects.

company policy was very specific here...
- Company policy does not equal law.
- Law does not equal right.
You've got to clear these two hurdles before you can convince us that we should just keep silent about right and wrong.

3 little words.........at will employee....i do not agree with his termination, but it is justified...i have walked this political minefield before, and although unfortunate, he did violate company policy....like i stated, he was set up. I can only hope he learns something about corporate politics from this...the lesson is, if someone wants to play games with you, just don't play

Would you answer that way if the woman instead was saying she was having an abortion that afternoon, killing her child not to mention wounding herself? I feel it's never good to cower from the devil, as long as you state things in a kind and Christian fashion, which the man in this article was doing. He took a "hit" for being Christian. While the Brookstone higher-ups gave it a full thumbs down, God, however (the Ultimate "higher-up"), loves that sort of thing.
