Scozzafava Manager Matt Burns Backs Hoffman
Hotline ^ | 11/01/09 | Hotline

Posted on 11/01/2009 3:47:44 PM PST by American Dream 246

Assemb. Dede Scozzafava (R) may be crossing party lines to support atty Bill Owens (D), but her now ex-mgr Matt Burns isn't going along with that decision. "Dede is entitled to her own opinion, as is everyone, but I obviously disagree with her decision," Burns told us today, a day after leaving the campaign. "I am supporting Doug Hoffman, because denying Nancy Pelosi another foot soldier is vital to restoring fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington."

Burns, who was raised in the CD but now works in MN, said he decided to join Scozzafava's team in order to keep the Dem-trending seat in GOP hands. "In her heart of hearts, she's a good person. She's a capable legislator," Burns said. "But I don't think supporting a candidate who would back Nancy Pelosi is the best way to get our nation on the right track."

He said Scozzafava first considered getting out of the race 10/30, but after the 10/31 Siena poll revealed her stock plummeting, and her unfavorable ratings rising, she decided to leave the race. Burns said the decision came down to the candidate's lack of resources. "You need money to respond charges, and we were not in a position to do that," Burns said.

Still, Burns -- a self-described conservative -- said he sides with many GOPers who say the party needs to recruit both moderates and conservatives if it expects to pick up seats in '10. He said he agrees with ex-Speaker/ex-Scozzafava backer Newt Gingrich (R) that the party needs to find candidates that fit their districts. Burns: "Otherwise, it's going to be tough to take back the House."

Just another political HACK looking out for number 1. He does not give a wit about Hoffman, he just cares about a future GOP paycheck at our expense.

Come to think of it, that describes Scuzzy’s favorite supporter Neut Gingrich as well.

Newt wants (R)s in charge not because he has republican principles, but because he has republican CONNECTIONS. Follow the money.

I agree that the party needs to find someone to fit their districts, because after all, it is the local population who will provide the votes. However, in this case, Scuzy is obviously more liberal than the districts, so that’s a problem.

I don't mind the GOP picking up real moderates. The problem is that the MSM is casting Dede Scozzafava as a moderate when in fact she was just a plain old liberal.

I guess if you are liberal and you seem someone who is left wing but “fiscally responsible” that makes them a moderate. Wrong.

Fine. We see that too. If a moderate Republican wins a seat from a San Francisco or a Boston district, I'll be thrilled.

But Scuzzy was neither moderate nor conservative. She was a liberal Democrat using Republican money to win power. Nor is upstate NY 'moderate' territory. Upstate NY is as conservative as rural Indiana. She was hand-picked by Rockefeller Republicans who have lost touch and need to be replaced immediately.

Yes, good for him. Maybe he would like to run for Dede’s seat?

If she fit the district why was the independent conservative cleaning her clock?

Thats my feeling too. Scozzyfava is nothing but a plain old liberal. Nothing moderate about her.

He sounds like a practical, down-to-earth pub who wants to win without sacrificing the major party platform positions.

Good.

Scuzzy is finished. She needs to join the rats or go bake cookies.

I agree with your observation. I will support the conservative in the primaries but if the district elects a moderate Republican so be it.

I think the campaign manager’s actions are entirely honorable - certainly more than Dede’s and Owens’.

Scozzafava’s decision to encourage support for the Democrat candidate is the clearest possible reason why we must redouble our efforts to smoke out RINOs and encourage them to leave the party.

Either that, or we should encourage a wholesale movement to the Conservative Party, possibly with a merger with the Constitution Party and leave the Republican Party an empty husk, as devoid of voters as it is the principles it has abandoned.

RINOs and Republican fatcats seem to enjoy their cynical schmoozing with their leftist counterparts. Their weary, friendly, fraternal “we are all men/women of the world and above the common herd” attitudes are carefully cultivated to mark them as members of the powered elite.

TO HELL WITH THAT!

If Ronnie were alive today, I am sure that he would be saying the same things Sarah is saying, and that one or the other would be frog marching Newt behind the woodshed for some well earned chastisement.

A party is a vehicle for the ideals it represents. If it no longer represents those ideals, the time is ripe for the creation of another party that does.

Agreed. He didn't have to endorse anyone at this point. He chose to publicly support Hoffman.

He knows that the survival of our Nation is at stake. These are truly perilous times. Hopefully many wake up to this fact.
