7 on defense panel scrutinized (Shakedown scandal - good read because there is a hero in this.)
The Washington Post ^ | October 30, 2009 | Carol D. Leonnig

Nearly half the members of a powerful House subcommittee in control of Pentagon spending are under scrutiny by ethics investigators in Congress, who have trained their lens on the relationships between seven panel members and an influential lobbying firm founded by a former Capitol Hill aide.

"The document also indicates that the House ethics committee's staff recently interviewed the staff of Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) about his allegation that a PMA lobbyist threatened him in 2007 when he resisted steering federal funds to a PMA client. The lobbyist told a Nunes staffer that if the lawmaker didn't help, the defense contractor would move out of Nunes's district and take dozens of jobs with him."

The bottom line is that a lobbyist told Republican Congressman Devin Nunes, from California, to direct earmark money to a defense contractor. Nunes refused, and reported the incident to the ethics committee. Since then, the FBI has investigated and this scandal has blown wide open. Nunes has come out of this a genuine hero. God bless him.

And look at some of the names under scrutiny!

John P. Murtha (D-PA)
James P. Moran (D-VA)
Norm Dicks (D-Wash)
Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio)
Peter J. Visclosky (D-Ind.)

And a couple of Republicans got caught up in this.

C.W. Bill Young (R-Fla.)
Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.).

I read that. And that certain Dem Operative needs to be investigated for that threat. Pay for play is a no no. If Congressman Duke Cunningham, a Vietnam hero can sit in jail for ethics violations, then a whole of Democrats need to join him.

Did these 7 people have a plan to get on this Committee with the purpose of soliciting campaign funds?

Probably they did.

Will the ethics Committee find them guilty??

Probably not.

The Ethics Committee is an oxymoron, a joke.

And Charlie Rangel is still seated.

The sad thing is I doubt that it would be much different if the republicans were running the committees. After all the legal counsel for the republicans took a loan from country wide. Crooks!!!

Tihart is running for Brownback’s Senate seat. If there is anything to this, he can kiss that race goodbye.

Comparatively speaking Duke is probably the cleanest of lot. I think his actions pale to those of the top Dems from Rangel on up or down.

When we say throw all the bums out, we are definitely not talking about Devin Nunes!

This is just great! It’s about time a few Hispanics stepped up to the plate and did the right thing. Good for him.

I don’t know if this name are helpful or not.

“Moran said he continued to believe that Magliocchetti was a good lobbyist who knew that he had to get Defense Department backing for the earmarks he was seeking from Capitol Hill. Describing him as “the only Democratic defense [lobbyist] for the most part,” Moran said Magliocchetti also was someone Democrats naturally turned to for fundraising help from the military contractor community.

“When you needed to raise money for the Democratic campaign committee, he was always the first one you went to,” Moran said, adding, “I don’t know how he raised his money.”

Moran hosted an event for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in his Alexandria home last year, the lawmaker said, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as the guest of honor. Magliocchetti and some of his clients were in attendance, writing checks for $28,500 each, Moran said.”

Will start tracking it down. This likely is what is going on when you have someone that is complaining that generals and Senators have no right to ask questions. I think there is something really wrong going on and this could be the tie that binds. Wonder if the Democrat Rep from there knows these people. Wouldn’t shock me.

You will be hearing from me shortly — picked up some interesting info this afternoon.

Thanks for picking up on this!

I certainly don’t want to get rid of Coburn and Inhofe which is they that deal to throw out incumbents is so stupid when we have some really good guys like DeMint, Jeff Sessions, and others.
