(CNN) - Is Mitt Romney weighing in on the intra-Republican Party fight in race for New York's 23 Congressional District by refusing to make an endorsement?
That's the special election where the GOP nominee, Dede Scozzafava, is facing a challenge not only from Bill Owens, the Democrat's candidate, but also from Doug Hoffman, who's running on the conservative party line. Because of the split among Republicans, Owens has a good chance of taking back a district the Democrats haven't won in generations.
On Wednesday Romney was asked whether he'd make an endorsement in the New York 23 contest.
"I have chosen not to endorse the Republican candidate in New York's 23rd District," Romney told reporters while campaigning in Virginia for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell. "That should speak a certain amount of volume. I can't endorse our candidate in that race."

But he has no problem being an integral part of Meg Whitman’s campaign in CA...a woman who is just as bad on core conservative principles as Scozzafava.
Much like the current occupant of the White House did as a Senator, Romney is playing it safe by voting present. What a doofus.
McRomney: “Weighing in by not endorsing anyone.”
I guess Mitt is putting his hands in his Air Force gloves on this one.
And some think Mitt is the savior of the GOP.
No heart at all.....what can you expect from a “man’ called mit.
Question for all the Romneybots out there - if you’re guy can’t even man up to make a choice one way or the other in NY-23, what makes you think we can trust him to make tough decisions as President?
We’ll keep this in mind in 2012. Palin, Pawlety, and Thompson (among others) hve endorsed Hoffman. Why can’t Mitt?
THAT’S cruel!!!!
Funny, but cruel!!!
Goodbye Mitt.
He did show great courage and leadership by endorsing McDonnell the other day, of course the 12 point lead made it easier for him to do so.
Palin shows courage and leads, Mitt and Huck sit on the sidelines, and do very little cheering. And we’re told over and over again that they are the frontrunners. If they are, we are in big trouble.
>> “That should speak a certain amount of volume. I can’t endorse our candidate in that race.”
Yeah, about an inaudible 2. We need 11 pal.
Don’t worry Mitt. We can’t endorse you either.
Newt commits treason...gone...check
Mitt commits cowardice...gone...check
Two RINOS down...check
GO SARAH !!
Put a fork in Romney — he is DONE! YEA!!!!
The worst part for Mitt is the plain and simple fact that he needs conservative support if he has any WH aspirations. Conservatives already deeply distrust him, so I would think it’s lopgical that he would back Hoffman. The man is a fool, there is no way I would support him, or Newt.
Maybe he’s for Owens?
“I can’t endorse our candidate in that race.”
That puts him one step above the Huckster.
