The last time Sweden got really involved in a war was shortly after the Danish king murdered the Swedish nobles in Stockholm.

The Vassa King was forced to hire a new nobility ~ which is a story all by itself.

Next thing you know the Swedish armies were beating everybody. They nearly exterminated Germany.

A big lesson to all the Europeans was to just leave these guys alone, and that's been pretty much the case up to the present time. Folks on the periphery in Norway, Finland, Denmark, etc. have been caught up in major wars, but Sweden has an armed neutrality.

They are not really peaceful people.

Worth noting, since the late 1700s when the first of the really big European droughts and famines hit more than half the Swedish population has emigrated to America! Finland, Norway, Denmark and associated cultural areas in Germany, Latvia and Estonia (once part of the Swedish empire) ALSO emigrated in comparable numbers.

I'd suggest the Vikings have been getting a wartime workout quite regularly since then.
