As a Marine lieutenant in Iraq in 2004, Duncan Hunter was poised for an assault on Fallujah when the order came down from Washington to pull out instead. It was the kind of top-down military decision which in this case had to be reversed when security in Fallujah later deteriorated that Hunter hopes will not be repeated in Afghanistan.
Now, five years later and a freshman congressman from California, Hunter is in a much better position to have his voice heard. As an Iraq war veteran, he has been enlisted by the House Republican leadership to help make its case that President Barack Obama should support Gen. Stanley McChrystals request for more troops in Afghanistan and do it soon.
In some ways, he is reprising the role that Rep. Patrick Murphy of Pennsylvania has played for the Democrats. Murphy, who saw action in Iraq in 2003 with the Armys 82nd Airborne Division, was elected to Congress in 2006. Encouraged by his party, he became a spokesman against the Iraq war, though, right now, the only thing hell say about McChrystals request is that hes still working through it.

..I’m hoping the old block will start making some speeches as part of conservatism’s current counterstrike against the left...
He’s done some good ones on the house floor. I’ve posted a couple. But for some damn reason, the congressional record website is corrupted and won’t allow you to search for any Duncan D. Hunter floor statements anymore. And he’s the only one, as far as I can tell.
..no, I’m talking about DH—sorry I wasn’t more clear...
LOL. You were clear. It was my reading skills at fault.
But DH has been writing a book on the wars, and has been on a long hunting vacation. But we are committed to getting his message out via the interviews. Supposed to be weekly, but life has interfered so far. I’m a week behind. But keep in mind you have the opportunity to get on a conference call with him as well once he’s done traveling.
..bet that will be a good one...
Wonder if FaceBook would be a good vehicle for DH. I don’t use it but it would be a good way for him to get some exposure in spite of the media.
Yes he is and I hope he becomes more and more vocal.
It would help if his dad would lend his expertise as well.
If the Newt can open his fat yap every other day, former Congressman Duncan Hunter can and should do the same!
It seems to be working wonders for some!
LOL. We’re trying to help him do just that, but he’s been too busy shooting elk and deer lately. I’m still waiting to hear back. Grrrrrrr
Right. For those that the media ignores or twists their facts, IMO, it’s a godsend. Palin comes to mind. And Hunter, being one of the good guys, would benefit from it, also.
I know you are.....Grrrrrr indeed!!!
We need to get moving, as the commies are not standing still!
Exactly who I was thinking of when I made the comment. ;*)
Lest we forget, Duncan D. is also an Afghanistan war veteran. He was in Afghanistan only returning on Thanksgiving Day, 2007 so he has a real good perspective on what is needed in Afghanistan.
