Obama condemns Iraqi bombings(obama version 2009)

President Barack Obama condemned Sunday two deadly car bombs set off in Baghdad near high-profile government offices that killed over 130 people.

The Iraqi government initially said that the bombings bore the signature of al-Qaeda in Iraq. The blasts went off near the federal Ministry of Justice and the Baghdad provincial offices.

"I strongly condemn these outrageous attacks on the Iraqi people, and send my deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones," Obama said in a statement. "These bombings serve no purpose other than the murder of innocent men, women and children, and they only reveal the hateful and destructive agenda of those who would deny the Iraqi people the future that they deserve."

Obama phoned Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki at 1 p.m. Eastern to express his condolences and offer support for the nation that is still rebuilding after years of war.

"These attempts to derail Iraq's progress are no match for the courage and resilience of the Iraqi people, and their determination to build strong institutions. The United States will stand with Iraq's people and government as a close friend and partner as Iraqis prepare for elections early next year," Obama added.

(obama version 2008)Sen. Barack Obama said Tuesday that overall U.S. interests have been hurt rather than helped by the Bush administration's decision to increase troop strength in Iraq 18 months ago, and vowed to stick to his plan to withdraw combat troops within 16 months of becoming president.

Obama said his White House rival, Sen. John McCain, "has argued that the gains of the surge mean that I should change my commitment to end the war. But this argument misconstrues what is necessary to succeed in Iraq, and stubbornly ignores the facts of the broader strategic picture that we face."

In a speech delivered in advance of an overseas trip, Obama said fighting al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan would be his top priority. Beyond that, he called for securing all nuclear weapons and materials from terrorists and rogue states, achieving energy security and rebuilding international alliances.

With his speech, Obama sought to cast the debate over the war in Iraq _ and in particular the surge _ in a wider context.

"Senator McCain wants to talk of our tactics in Iraq; I want to focus on a new strategy for Iraq and the wider world," he said.

"This war distracts us from every threat that we face and so many opportunities we could seize. This war diminishes our security, our standing in the world, our military, our economy, and the resources that we need to confront the challenges of the 21st century. By any measure, our single-minded and open-ended focus on Iraq is not a sound strategy for keeping America safe.

The insurgents in Iraq are trembling in the boots, of course and more likely hoping for capture thinking they’ll get a permanent trip to Bermuda along with a few hundred thousand taxpayer dollars.

Obamessiah has no clue what strategy is needed in either Iraq or AFghanistan, and especially not with Iran.

Our country has never been more vulnerable or in danger as it is right now.

All talk but no clue.

He and his political ilk slammed the Bush administration for the same statements made and the action taken by the Bush administration to support those statements.

Obama does nothing but make excuses and apologize.

Uh, no President Dufus, their purpose is to spread terror in an attempt to take control of Iraq, and to rub your and America's nose in the fact that we will leave Iraq without completing our mission. Better go wash your hands, Mr. President, they seem to have a tinge of red.

I fear that the gains we made in Iraq will be undone by this President - to the detriment of US, Iraq and the wider Middle East.

Clearly, Obama is an empty suit; he should be doing something, not sitting in the White House with his thumb up his b*tt beating his gums.
