Good post it puts the lie to one of Clarence Page's two legs of support.

The second leg is that Clarence Page would like us to infer from reading this article that the objection to the formation of an enemies list is that it tends to break down bipartisanship, that it tends to break down comity.

This is absurd and it is a transparent effort (the only transparent thing that I can think of that a Liberal has done in the last 10 months) to shield Obama from an indictment of the truly un-American assault on free speech of which this is but a latest example committed by this administration.

What Obama is doing is not wrong because it threatens a renewal of an era of good feelings which is only possible because of the transcendent genius of Barack Obama, it is wrong because it is brutal, because it is a threat to our constitutional liberties, because it is, in short, un-American.

There I have said it: it is un-American .

This is an affront to civilized government which cannot be swept under the rug and dismissed as something akin to a breach of good etiquette. This is an assault on democracy.

The problem for Clarence Page is that Hannity and Beck and the rest of the have a pesky habit of playing videos which exposes Obama and his henchmen with their own words uttered in front of our eyes. It becomes more and more difficult for the Clarence Pages of the world to dismiss Hannity and Limbaugh as demagogues when the visual evidence demonstrate out of the mouths of Obama and his henchmen that it is they who are demagogues. To avoid acknowledging this truth, Page attempts to redefine this totalitarian power grab as a lapse of etiquette.

I always enjoy your well reasoned posts.

Such phenomena were forecast in the movie "Network" in 1976. Back then the idea of a half-deranged demagogue set loose on a national audience for the sake of ratings still sounded far-fetched. These days the movie looks almost like a documentary.

Although I think it's a big stretch to label Hannity and Beck as "half-deranged demagogues", I actually wouldn't mind it if Page and others would accurately label Matthews, Maddow and Olbermann likewise. Labeling someone a "half-deranged demagogue" merely because of their ideology is not a convincing argument.
