President Obama announced today that he has a declared a "national emergency" over the H1N1 virus, a phrase with an ominous sound, but with little explanation offered by the mainstream media.
The Associated Press, for example, merely stated that the declaration removes "bureaucratic roadblocks" and enables officials to "bypass federal rules." Other news outlets were even vaguer, saying the declaration waived federal requirements, but not saying what those requirements govern.
In the void of information, Internet rumors were quick to flame, centering on concerns over how the Obama administration might use the declared emergency to suddenly expand government power.
"Obama just declared H1N1 a national emergency," wrote a WND reader in an email, "Here we go with martial law."

I have to agree that this meets the definition of an emergency.
When just under 3,000 Americans were killed on 9/11, it changed our way of life forever. At least, I hope it changed our way of life forever.
So far, 1,000 Americans have died from H1N1, 20,000 Americans have been hospitalized, the vaccine is not here as promised, and we’re just barely getting started.
By the time this is over, almost certainly, more Americans will have died from H1N1 than from 9/11, the Iraq War, and the war in Afghanistan combined. And twenty times that number will have been sick for a week. The impact of this is still likely to be enormous.
Of couse, being a disease it lacks the enormous emotional impact of 9/11 and the two wars. But although it’s not going to be anywhere near as bad as it COULD have been, this is NOT a non-event.
By this, I mean twenty times the number of people who eventually die.
I don’t think he’s up for martial law yet. I think he’s sticking his toe in the water to see just what he can get away with.
Given his performance so far, I don’t think “internet rumors” are that far out of line.

Also, I suspect the main purpose is to scare people over the swine flu “pandemic,” hype up talk about children dying, and push through the health care “reform.”
After all, we wouldn’t be having this pandemic if it weren’t for the evil Bush and all those Republicans.
We need a non-violent Constitutional restoration similar to the one in Honduras. I don’t know if we can count on our courts to give legal cover to the military. But oaths are oaths. People are sworn to defend this nation against enemies foreign and DOMESTIC. Somebody needs to act.
The Constitution needs to be protected and the rule of law needs to be maintained. Lots of people in Washington are sworn to maintain those things. They should act before somebody starts thinking about violence in the streets. It can still be done peacefully.

But, to say that flu deaths are similar to deaths from terrorist attack is comparing incomparable units.
Each year thousands of people die from flu. It is a normal occurrence.

I suspect it would start with something small. Municipalities refusing to give permits for small protests etc.
I was told this morning by some hogjawed bucket mouth at the local gready-mart, that we even have a stinking weather emergency for Gods sake. Turn on the news and everything in "Breaking news" ((all bad)) and if they can't find some dead guy murdered in Orlando, they find one in the GD Congo, and make sure you know about it.
I want to know why he didn’t close the borders in the spring. He could have helped ‘save the world’ with those actions, but he distinctly didn’t.
I’ve been studying up on influenza and pandemics for a few years. It is a long and interesting subject, and I’ve learned more than I ever thought I would.
When the CDC (the heads of which are the usual political animals and twist, skew and lie to suit their boss) says (only as of a few years ago, mind you) that 36,000 people a year die of flu, this is actually not true at all.
It’s based on stastistical modelling of how many people die in the winter compared to the summer, speculating about “ILIs” (influenza like illness) and how many old people get pneumonia and die. They even admit that mroe than 90 or 95% of this vast number of die of flu every year are over 65, and most of those are over 80!
Of actual counted and tested flu deaths, it runs between (rough numbers, can’t remember exact figures) 600 and 1200 a year for the last 10 or so years.
This flu is not like regular seasonal flu. Flu pandemics are an act of Mother Nature and they just happen sometimes. The 1918 flu was not human caused, and was lied about (they tried to hide info at the time to protect the war effort, not “scare” people, hurt the economy), just as is now happening. The CDC is actually undercounting the numbers and has lied that it is “mild” and “just like regular flu” and “not changing at all”.
There is a lot about this flu that is not understood - for instance, how did North American swine flu mix with Asian swine flu and some kind of avian flu, as well as human flu, and turn up in Mexico first? It is unheard of. All new strains of influenza are generated in southern China, due to wild bird flyways, filthy domestic poultry/pig/human conditions and maybe other factors. This had determined to be factual, in the last few years.
This flu could very easily have a CFR - case fatality rate - of the 1918 flu, or could be even more, what to speak of collateral disruptions and deaths due to radical changes in society and culture since then.
The reason the CDC wants to inflate the numbers of flu cases is to make the fatalities seem less “scarey”.
The best flu info site of all, it is very non-partisan, and highly informative, is the PFI forum. I suggest anyone who wants to learn about this should read it, take some hours, scout around. Your life and the lives of those you care about depend on being informed. The first site has a lot of well organized background info, the second is more news and stuff, but both are very good. I became a member there about a week after it started.

Because the 2009-H1N1 flu outbreak remains a worldwide public health threat and the Department should use all available tools to ensure that we are prepared, on this date and after consultation with public health officials as necessary, I, Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, pursuant to the authority vested in me under section 319 of the Public Health Service Act, 42 U.S.C. § 247d, do hereby renew the April 26, 2009 determination by then Acting Secretary Charles E. Johnson that a public health emergency exists nationwide involving Swine Influenza A that affects or has significant potential to affect national security.

One thing I have learned. If one reads enough, or digs deep enough....you will find something to validate your opinion. There is so very much contradictory information out there. It’s hard to know what to believe.
How many people die from flu each year between August and October? How many have died from flu between August and October of this year? How many hospitalizations occur between August and October, and how many have been hospitalized between August and October of this year? How much lead time is there between the production of a flu vaccine and the flu season? How much lead time (if any) was there between the production of the 2009 H1N1 vaccine and the 2009 H1N1 outbreak?
If you really think this is a normal flu, you can prove it by showing how its behavior is identical to the normal flu we have seen for the past 40 years.

I think 0bamination is actually a demon. Made a couple of comments in that regard on a couple of articles I pinged out I think yesterday.
If the administration actually was concenred about the wellbeing of the citizenry, they would have told the truth about possible pandemic disruptions and deaths a long time ago and made preparations for absenteeism especially in necessary infrastructure, made zillions of PSAs about watching for the signs, made zillions of PSAs about having preps at home in case of sickness or infrastructure disruption, (actually the head Public Health guy, or one of them, in CA made some noises about that but it probably did no good anyway), and they would have closed off the border with Mexico in April, and closed the damn schools.
The CDC is following the orders of WHO, which is run by a Chinese communist. Need I say more?

Dig a little deeper. Both sites are run by a guy named Monotreme (screen name), he’s a libertarian, not a lefist, and his field is some sort of biologist/scientist. I can tell you he knows his stuff and he hates the CDC with a strong passion. Try finding his blogs - he’s got a lot of articles up that are linked to somewhere on both sites, and for a scientist he writes very simply and clearly.
Even I can understand! :-)

BTW, Monotreme thinks it very, very likely that this H1N1 is a lab creation from China - either an escaped experiment or bio-war. General Honore said something about that, it being a lab creation, months ago on a TV interview.

I happen to disagree a little bit with LJ, in that I think we can probably now exclude any truly disastrous outcome like the 1918 flu. Earlier, I was certainly concerned about that level as well, but I happen to think (layman’s opinion, I’m not a flu expert though I am better informed than most here) that the danger of a 1918 scenario is passing.
But aside from that small variation of viewpoint, LJ, in my opinion, is spot on.

Thank you. I became interested in such things when I read about SARS on FR. Then I started reading about influenza pandemics, then H5N1, and of course now this.
The various gov entities what to speak of WHO are not transparent, not trustworthy, not accountable, no oversight, and run on behind the scenes agendas. The MSM is ****ed up on this as they are on everything. So anyone who wants to know as much of the truth as they can without dedicating their every waking hour on it, does need to dig much deeper and find sites dedicated to the topic. There are a number of such sites, and some are kookdum, and at least one has Chinese connections and so is agenda driven.
I think PFI is definitely the best.
Once Tamiflu runs out, or the flu becomes resistant (just as the main seasonal strain did, inexplicably, in one year), changes to have a higher fatality rate and more transmissible (it’s doing those things as we speak), I think the outcome could easily be worse than 1918.
Especially because of the JIT economy (which just happens to be doing some really bad stuff anyway), food production very long distance, urban thug culture, a huge number of people utterly dependent on the government for everything, much less family oriented and self sufficient culture, very few people who actually grow their own food and keep stocked pantries, and so much of everything produced in countries that will break down with even a sub-1918 pandemic. And probably more stuff.
I think anyone with any sense should have enough stuff at home to survive a good while without going out, and have some plan of what to do if there is any infrastructure disruption.
If it doesn’t get that bad, no problem. If it does, people who haven’t done anything will be very, very sorry.

The 1918 flu was so disastrous because there were no anti-biotics/anti-virals available.
A bit of annectdodal information. My Dad, now 93, and his family of 12, all survived that flu. His mother, according to family lore, set out bowls of raw onions and garlic all over their little sod house (in northwest Kansas) when she heard that all their neighbors were succumbing to the flu. (an old remedy she brought back from her home in Denmark) None of the twelve caught the flu. But, according to family lore again, all of the onions and garlic turned black......sucking up all the bacteria and viruses. LOL!
I lived in Germany during the post WW11 era. (1945 to 1953). We had a German maid who put onion poultices on us whenever we had a cold or cough. It worked. Perhaps we hated the smell so much we made up our minds not to cough in her presence. For whatever reason, the poultices seemed to help.
Who knows? Perhaps the old remedies are the best remedies.
