Top Democrats seek to shield Obama in case of election loss
Sensing that victory in the race for Virginia governor is slipping away, Democrats at the national level are laying the groundwork to blame a loss in a key swing state on a weak candidate who ran a poor campaign that failed to fully embrace President Obama until days before the election.
Senior administration officials have expressed frustration with how Democrat R. Creigh Deeds has handled his campaign for governor, refusing early offers of strategic advice and failing to reach out to several key constituencies that helped Obama win Virginia in 2008, they say.
Democratic strategists said that over the summer, Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) offered Deeds advice on winning a statewide election. Among other things, Kaine, who is also chairman of the Democratic National Committee, told Deeds that he should lay out more of his own vision and stop attacking Republican Robert F. McDonnell so ferociously. But Deeds did not embrace the advice, according to a national Democratic strategist.
A senior administration official said Deeds badly erred on several fronts, including not doing a better job of coordinating with the White House. "I understood in the beginning why there was some reluctance to run all around the state with Barack Obama," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to speak candidly about the race. "You don't do that in Virginia. But when you consider the African American turnout that they need, and then when you consider as well they've got a huge problem with surge voters, younger voters, we were just a natural for them."

Nobody has noticed that even Doug Wilder refuses to endorse Deeds. Wilder is the Dem former governor who also happens to be black. That was the kiss of death imho.
I recall someone on this site saying only a couple of days ago that we would soon be seeing the blame for this staggering liberal loss being laid at the feet of the deeds with the excuse being “he didn’t follow our advice”
neck ties, TNT,
done dirt cheap
man.. so many has he thrown under the bus that the wheels are not touching the pavement anymore! lol
Ya shudda come to me first, I cudda helped ya.
Deeds should have talked about nothing but hope and change. it worked for the marxist-goon-in-chief
Nah, they just got a new bus

The commercial that is running here with Obama screaming at Virginians to vote for Creigh Deeds has got to be the biggest turn off I’ve ever seen in a campaign commercial. Please everyone has to search for it and watch. It’s horrible.
I’m not surprised by this. McDonnell has always enjoyed tremendous support from blacks. Plus McDonnell has a fantastic commercial running with three Virginia sheriffs talking about what a good and fair man McDonnell is. 2 are white and one is black.
I think the liars in the White House are FOS with that spin; and here is why.
At that link, you can read about the August 6th fundraiser that Obama attended for his VA Homeboy, Creigh Deeds.
"Days before the election" ?? Like, around 90 days. Deeds was sucking up to BO for months, and it's more than likely doing more harm than good; BO is Deeds' albatross.
But that's just fine by me. It's time for conservatives to take back VA.
I wonder how his staff is going to cover for a sweep of statehouse offices by the Republicans, gains in the Virginia legislature, a win in NJ and the win by a Conservative party candidate in a NY congressional race?
Well, I can dream can’t I?
That was a really funny scene. Perfect for Dem’s excuses which mostly revolve around “Bush did it”.
And this now shows a strategy I speculated about a couple of days ago.
Obama waits until Deeds is already hopeless, or at least to where his poll numbers are so bad that a visit by Obama couldn’t be blamed for the poor poll numbers.
Then, Obama comes to “help”, but only to one black college.
No doubt, kids in that black college will be “helped” to go out and vote, and so whatever precincts they are in will show a marked improvement for Deeds. Not anywhere near enough to be any help whatsover, of course.
And because Obama ONLY appears there, there’s little chance of a backlash that will be measurable against an Obama visit, like there would be if he stumped around for Deeds.
So after the election, the “results” will “verify” what the White House says in this memo: That Deeds waited TOO LONG to invite Obama in. “See, you invited him, but it was so late Obama could only do one event — and that event increased turnout for Deeds by 20%. If only Deeds had embraced Obama earlier, and gotten that same 20% throughout the state. THis isn’t Obama’s fault, it’s Deeds for rejecting the Obama message”.
Couple that with the possible Owens win in NY-23, where Obama is campaigning (because all Owens needs there is to peal a few liberal votes from the republican to win a 3-way race), and the possibility of corzine winning (which Obama will say is because Obama just appeared there for him, again since Corzine only needs the democrats to vote for him, as the independents are going to the crazy guy, Daggett).
Obama, with the help of the left-wing party official media outlets, might well get to spin this november election as a validation of his policies.
That's strange... I could have sworn that Deeds had the "gullible idiot" vote all but locked up...
Maybe we'll see a "get out the gullible idiot vote" push in the final days of the campaign...

Gonna be hard for ACORN to make up that difference.
Thank goodness VA has come to its senses. Wish NJ would do likewise, but dont have much hope of that happening.
Watch Deeds get thrown under the bus soon (terrible candidate, wouldnt listen to our coaching, no reflection on Obama, blah, blah). May even be an article to that effect this week. If so, it will be proof they know the election is McDonnells.
Deeds is toast, perhaps by double digits. Obama is narcisistically trying to frame the election as “Deeds didn’t follow MY advice”.....because, of course, if he embraced Obama, he would have won in a walk (yeah, right).
Really, though, this bodes well for Virginia. I never want to count chickens, but it looks like a GOP sweep, with gains in the gen assembly as well......I’m hoping McDonnell can reach double digits.
Deeds should probably have tried to make some headway with Bob’s college thesis.
(snicker, snicker......)
