Virginia Gov 2009: Obama steps up activity for Deeds; Republicans up big in poll
Richmond Times-Dispatch ^ | Oct 21, 2009

President Barack Obama’s Oct. 27 appearance on behalf of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds will be at Old Dominion University, his campaign said today.

The president will appear a week before Election Day at ODU’s Ted Constant Center.

Obama will try to reignite the voters who helped him become the first Democratic presidential candidate in 44 years to carry Virginia.

Deeds, meantime, has released a new television ad in which Obama encourages Virginia Democrats to help elect the state senator as governor.

The development came as Public Policy Polling released a survey that shows Republicans leading by double-digits in all three statewide races.

Obama’s comments in the ad come from his Aug. 6 fundraiser with Deeds in Fairfax County.

“I need every one of you to get fired up once again so that we can go towards the future, with Creigh Deeds leading the great commonwealth of Virginia,“ Obama says.

In the new poll, Republican Bob McDonnell leads Deeds 52 percent to 40 percent, up from his 5-point edge three weeks ago.

Another article in the RTD:

Control of House [of Delegates] will come down to few races

*break*

For all the money raised and spent on both sides statewide, Farnsworth said, the result might be little change.

“I think it will be pretty close to a net of zero,” he said.

“The somewhat lackluster [R. Creigh] Deeds campaign [for governor] has really eliminated the thin possibility that Democrats could win a majority of seats in the House of Delegates this cycle.”

How long before Democratic candidates start deciding that it’s not in their best interest to appear on stage with Obama?

Hopefully, not until after the 2010 midterms.

Heh heh. Keep it up, Obama. Did you see the Post editorial Sunday? Totally spoiled my sourdough french toast and eggs benedict. But then I figured that if the Post felt like it had to take up the entire editorial column to convince people to vote for Deeds, using Deeds' promise to raise taxes as a selling point, our guy was doing all right and was going to do even better.

With Obama stepping up to campaign for Deeds, it’ll be impossible to claim a Deeds defeat has not implications for Obama. I can’t see why he’s doing this outside of inability to accept his own vulnerability.

Had the Post done anything else but what they did by going over the top for Deeds, conservatives would be questioning McDonnell’s credentials. Thanks, WP!

Obama is just a pitch man. Doesn’t seem he spends much time working for us as a real President. He likes the power as a pitch man but is he qualified for the job?
