Hamid Karzai Refuses To Accept Being Stripped Of Afghanistan Election Win

Afghanistan has been thrown into crisis after Hamid Karzai refused to accept the results of a fraud inquiry which denied him victory in the presidential election.

By Ben Farmer in Kabul 19 Oct 2009

President Barack Obama's aides said it would be 'reckless' for him to commit more troops to Afghanistan until there is a 'true partner' to work with in Kabul, in veiled criticism of Hamid Karzai

A two-month investigation into allegations of widespread ballot-stuffing by supporters took his share of the vote from 55 per cent to 48 per cent, officials said.

The findings of the UN-backed Election Complaints Commission meant he fell below the crucial 50 per cent mark in a result that should trigger a run-off with his closest rival, Abdullah Abdullah.

The ECC found "clear and convincing evidence" of fraud in the August 20 poll, and ordered election officials in charge of the final tally to ignore results from 210 entire polling stations and thousands more found to be rigged in a statistical audit.

Election observers from Democracy International said it took Mr Karzai's vote down to 48.3 per cent of the overall vote.

A statement said: "This reduces his vote share below the 50 per cent threshold necessary for a first-round victory, and should necessitate a run-off election between Hamid Karzai, and Abdullah Abdullah.

Mr Karzai was said to be furious with the findings, while the Karzai-appointed election committee which must certify the final results also signalled it would not accept them either.

Make him the leader of the DNC, and bring all the troops home.

Leave them to their own endings.

How does the Afghan election stack up to, oh, say Chicago, for honesty? Just as an example . . . ;-)

Bambi’s not going to like this. He sent James Carville to Afghanistan to manage the campaign of Karzai’s opponent. I guess Carville didn’t pay enough to buy the election right off, though.

Still, with Democrats, an election - win or lose - is just the first step in the process of getting yourself into office. If you lose it, you just get it overturned.

Karzai may be corrupt, but so is everybody in Afghanistan. For some reason, possibly as a favor to Pakistan, Bambi wants to get rid of him, and he’s not going to take no for an answer, I’m sure.

The "strategy" is now clear: No more troops until the political situation in Afghanistan is settled.

Support Karzi's opponent in order to ensure that Karzi resists a runoff election. Use the Karzi resistance to further delay troop deployment. Stall. Stall. Stall. Try to get through the 2010 election without doing anything to upset the far, far, far left wing of the Democrat Party. If this fails then try something else. Keep dreaming up reasons for Obama's failure to reach a decision on the troops.

Use the time tested "cross your fingers" technique to make sure that McCrystal or, God forbid, Petraeus doesn't resign in the middle of this. If either does be prepared to smear him like nobody has been smeared before.

Sounds like Hamid Karzai was too supportive of his own nation of Afghanistan, and refused ‘solidartiy’ with the U.N. and Obama (did they back Abdullah?). I would wager that Abdullah Abdullah ran a very corrupt election and forced Karzai into doing same.

Governing a place like Afghanistan is not like anywhere else on earth, except perhaps for rural Bolivia.

Screw it...bring 'em home. No sense in leaving our troops hanging out to dry like that.

Trouble is, Obama doesn't have the 'nads to do this. He's going to take the advice of Biden & Kerry over Petraeus and McChrystal. IMO, that's an impeachable offense.
