Bob McDonnell has spent the last several years on the path of moderation. By keeping to that middle path, he can be the governor Virginia needs in these tough economic times.
He is, make no mistake, conservative. But despite the baggage that a fringe of the Republican Party has heaped on that term, and despite some aspects of McDonnell's past, it isn't synonymous with intolerance and mean-spirited social crusades. It should connote a commitment to conserving. Now and in the future, Virginia needs to conserve and protect tax dollars, core government services, our natural resources and our business-friendly reputation.
McDonnell will bring executive experience in business and the military and management experience in state government, gained as attorney general. That's an advantage over Democratic candidate Creigh Deeds, a state senator and former commonwealth's attorney from rural Bath County. ..
Alarms went off about McDonnell with the disclosure of his master's thesis from Regent University, written 20 years ago. That thesis, which promoted policies hostile to working women, homosexuality and even birth control, raised legitimate concerns, as it represents the self-described political agenda of McDonnell in his mid-30s. His voting record as a legislator echoed that agenda at times, and Deeds has relentlessly made it the negative centerpiece of his campaign, but, despite assertions by the Democrats, McDonnell's more recent record shows his political evolution into the more practical, moderate mainstream.
That's the McDonnell who is ready to be governor, the McDonnell who has learned that the middle is not only where elections are won, but also where governing is effective.

McDonnell endorsement ping.
They keep coming in for McDonnell. But I was so very surprised to see the WaPo endorsed Deeds.
You forgot the sarcasm tag, right?
