I forgot all about the 2009 hurricane season. Remember the usual annual predictions of the worse hurricane season due to global warming? The same false prediction they have made ever since Katrina. And time and time again the seasons fail to meet expectations of the Global Warmers. This season seems to be the quietest yet. I don't think we had any storm hit the mainland this year head on.

Or it could stay off shore and weaken until it’s pretty much a non event. Which is the forecast.

When will the day come that the national hurricane center drops a small camera boat into the eye of one of these things so that people can witness it’s wrath in open waters?

IIRC, it was my fourth grade teacher who taught us that
"Hurricanes" occur in the Atlantic, and that
"Typhoons" occur in the Pacific...
AFAICS, this "Hurricane" is in the Pacific...

Blasted AGW liars will do anything to make it appear that their FUD predictions are coming true!

Since we are headed to Cabo on Monday, I have been watching the forecast very closely. It is highly likely the hurricane is going to make landfall on the Baja, the strength is unknown at this time but Cat 1-2 range is the current forecast. I am only worried about the rain they are supposed to get in Cabo. That area is quite arid and I fear that too much rain could be the biggest problem.
To: ETL
It’s expected to change direction and head for the Baja in the next two days.

Sounds like she might have her work cut out for her if a 4 comes in. Praying for Jesus to intervene.
To: ETL
I hope Texas does not get any spin off tornados! That is a BIG storm.
To: freekitty
You bet!!!! No more hurricanes hitting Texas. We did our time.

Category 5 Hurricane Rick intensified in dramatic fashion yesterday into
the second most powerful hurricane ever recorded in the Eastern Pacific.
The storm had sustained winds of 180 mph this morning, 906 mb. Current
wind speed ~160 mph, 921 mb. Hurricane force winds extend 60 miles
from the center of the storm.
Hurricane Rick is expected to decrease in strength well before
anticipated landfall near the southern Baja Peninsula Tues/Wed.

When Rick turns north, as it arcs towards Baja, It will generate some huge swells destined for south facing beachs in socal.

AFAICS, this "Hurricane" is in the Pacific.Cyclonic storms in the Atlantic OR the eastern Pacific are hurricanes. In the western Pacific they are typhoons. In the Indian Ocean they are just cyclones.

Isn’t there a chance that Rick might possibly get to Texas as a tropical storm?

Highly unlikely a tropical storm would be intact after traveling 400+ miles inland to West Texas.

Anything is possible with a storm that big and close to Texas. We can use some rain but I hope none of the bad winds come over.
To: NautiNurse
Wasn’t Ike still dangerous when it got to the midwest, Quebec, and even Iceland (according to wiki), well over 400 miles from Galveston?

Joe Bastardi on FOX just said that Rick will likely be hitting south Texas on Thursday, then getting into the southeast US by the weekend. He also said it might hit Cabo as a cat 3!! Definitely need to keep a lookout on this one.

Ike was extratropical when it reached Arkansas. You asked if Hurricane Rick would reach Texas as a Tropical Storm. I stand by my reply.

Joe B’s deal is that he will err on the side of the worst-case scenario for the sake of those in harm’s way. He doesn’t apoligize for that, nor should he.

rumors of rick re -emerging are already hitting S.fla.The GOM still has plenty of heat to ignite a storm. We have several days to watch this system traverse the width of North America. The models are interesting.
