Republican Bob McDonnell has emerged with a commanding lead in the Virginia gubernatorial race over Democrat Creigh Deeds, according to a newly-released Washington Post poll.

With less than a month until the election, the poll shows McDonnell leading Deeds by nine points, 53 to 44 percent – and contains a wealth of encouraging developments for the Republican nominee.

By double-digit margins, voters said that McDonnell would handle nearly every major issue – transportation, taxes, education, the economy – more effectively than Deeds. Despite running a campaign defined by his attacks on McDonnell’s record towards working women, Deeds holds only a narrow advantage with female voters.

Among independent voters, McDonnell holds a whopping 21-point lead over Deeds, 59 to 38 percent. And a 51 percent majority of Virginia voters characterized McDonnell as “about right” ideologically

There will be Republican coattails in this election in the legislature and other lower offices too.

Obama and acorn and unprecedented spending for tv turned VA purple. 7 months of Obama in office has flipped it back red BIG TIME!

This is *very* significant.

Anyone with an IQ about 50 should have an idea that Hussein and the Democrats are bankrupting and destroying America.

I forgot to mention that. That will be a big factor too, because these races decide redistricting after 2010. If Republicans win all three statewide offices on the ballot in November, I would think that those wins would translate into gains in the general assembly as well as the state senate.

Any info on that??

If they finally buried that mummy Frank Lautenberg in NJ in a crypt - the idiots there would still vote for him.

Corzine has unlimited money. The majority of people in NJ are idiots.

Maybe Christie can still pull it out.

When Repub’s sweep these local/state election, the dims will know what is coming in 2010. I suspect they already know and has planned to get most of their socialist agenda done in this session.

Memo to Republican National Committee and State Republican Central Committees.

Subject: Virginia state-wide races.

See what happens when you nominate conservative candidates that run good campaigns. They win.

Corslime has already spent $16million and counting.

The corruption here is monumental.

Most of the people here love their crooked pols.

They don’t see the connection between the corruption and the high taxes, poor services, and lousy schools.

Some of these morons are relatives. They bitched and moaned about the quality of life in NJ. They moved south to a normal place, which they now love but are still rock solid Dems.

Dogs are smart enough not to foul (s**t) in their own nest but not these ex-NJ or ex-CA or ex-MA Democrats who are like effing locust. Sorry for the rant. ;-)

Be careful of these sort of reports. They might be done to try to suppress Republican turnout. I don’t think I need to tell FReepers to do their civic duty but they need to encourage friends who might think it is a hassle to go to the polls to get their and vote anyway. You’re not just voting for Virginia, you are voting so that the voice is so loud that DC can’t help but hear it.
