US may be aware about Osama's whereabouts: Qureshi (Pakistan Foreign Minister)

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said the United States may be aware about Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden's present location.

Interacting with media persons in Washington, Qureshi said the US troops, engaged in a gruesome battle in Afghanistan, are equipped with sophisticated, state of art technology and weapons hence they may be aware about Laden’s whereabouts.

“US may be aware of the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden,” The News quoted Qureshi, as saying.

The Obama Administration maintains that Laden along with other top Al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders are hiding in Pakistan’s ungoverned tribal areas along the Afghan border.

“In the FATA, the western part of Pakistan in the mountains on the Afghan border, that is a war on terror. That’s where al-Qaida lives. That’s where bin Laden is. That’s where the most radicalized part of the Taliban is,” US Vice President Joe Biden, had said days ago.

Biden said Al-Qaeda had reconstituted itself in the mountain regions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border under the Bush Administration, which was a matter of great concern.

Deputy Chief of the Mission, US Embassy, Gerald Feierstein, recently, had said Laden was alive and has taken refuge in Pakistan.

“Osama is present in Pakistan. The command system of Taliban is based in Quetta and they are launching their activities from the suburbs of the city,” Feierstein said.

However, Pakistan has brushed aside Feierstein statements terming them as ‘baseless speculation’.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said the US should share evidence with Islamabad regarding bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan.

We've been down that road before.

true. However, the price to pay may be too high. I am not a military expert nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express, but sending troops up that mountian may be too high of cost for just one man.

that would be ironic since the wahabists hate the shias more than Christians and Jews.

anyone smell an unholy deal in the works?

You, Mr. Pakistan, hand over Bin Laden to us. Our President gets lauded as a hero, his approval ratings shoot up and he gets to cram through Socialized Medicine, Cap and Tax, and pretty much anything else he wants.

In return, we agree to leave Afghanistan, to allow the Taliban to take power, and to return to the pre-911 model where they were your little Sharia puppet state next door, so long as they do not allow any further attacks to be launched on us from their territory.

Bin Laden by all accounts is by this point pretty much a washed-up has-been in the Muslim world, with his influence on the wane. Still, since Obama would never execute him, he can continue to issue screeds on the web through his ACLU lawyers from Supermax, which is considerably more comfortable than a cave in Peshawar.

Taliban released a statement earlier in the week that they would not allow attacks on other countries to be launched from their territory if returned to power. I smell a rat...
