Whites playing Asians was acceptable until quite recently. I remember a white actor played the main Vietnamese character in Miss Saigon when it opened in London (to much controversy). I can remember Joel Gray (!) playing an Asian in Remo Williams as a kid.

The author has way too much time on his hands.
