I’m old. I remember in the fifties a doll called Poor Pitiful Pearl. She looked like a ragpicker and had a scarf on her head and a tattered dress with patches.

My cousin got one for Christmas. My mother thought it was very peculiar — she also objected to “Betsy Wetsy” dolls................ she preferred those little dolls with cute clothes — Madame Alexander dolls I believe...

How about No Health Care Hannah?

I read another article about this doll. It was a good editorial commentary. The story that comes with the doll is that the daddy abandoned the family, mommy lost her job and they ended up living in their car.
