McCain: "I sympathize with the president" on Afghanistan
Politico ^ | 9/27/09 | staff

Sen. John McCain, the Republican from Arizona who ran last year against Barack Obama to become the next commander-in-chief, says he can "sympathize" with the president now over the tough choices the Obama faces in Afghanistan.

U.S. commanders there have called for the insertion of tens of thousands of more American troops, but Obama is still reviewing those recommendations.

"By the way, I sympathize with the president," McCain said on ABC's "This Week."

"The base of his party, the left base of his party, is opposed. The American people are weary of this conflict. I do have sympathy for the president making this decision. It's the toughest decision the president has to make, to send people into harm's way. But I remind you that throughout [U.S.] history, whether it be Harry Truman or Franklin Delano Roosevelt or Abraham Lincoln, leaders have had to make tough choices, and history has judged them very kindly."

What did it for me is when he was one of the first to apologize for Joe Wilson. He should get over himself. If he really wants to help win Afghanistan he needs to point out that the reason the situation is deteriorating is because Obama is appearing weak to the world and in the face of our enemies. He is sending the message that the US does not have the will to make the hard decisions.

"By the way, I sympathize with the president,"

Sympathy for the devil.

Then join him.

Leave the "once" conservative Republican party.

McCain was my absolute last choice for president, I swore for two years, even before he announced, that I would never vote for him.

Then to watch him take the nomination from far better men... any of the men on stage with him, heck, any man chosen at random from the crowd would have been better than him... and then in the end to avoid a worse outcome I find myself forced to vote for the guy I most detest...

I hate reliving this last election.

Palin is the only good thing to have come out of it.

McCain: "I sympathize with the president" on Afghanistan

Senator McCain observed begging the Kenyan for some semblance of his former dignity.

A RINO.

If I was the parent of a 19 yr old marine risking his life for this worthless POS in his worthless half-vast war he campaigned for just to look tough- or the parent or spouse of a brave military troop who died after this craphole took office- I would not feel sympathy for “him”

Juan Sidney is so patronizing of our first black president it is DISGUSTING

Shut up McCain.

I think all this started during McCain’s captivity in Hanoi.

When one is cut off or via cultural immersion removed for a length of time from ones own country and countrymen/women - one begins to idealize.

IMHO John McCain during those long hours in that cell at the Hanoi Hilton idealized America to such an extent he is literally incapable of considering any fellow American to be dangerous or a potential adversary.

He doesn’t oppose Obama because Obama is (allegedly) an American. So while the rest of us see a communist as real as those Hanoi guards who held McCain in that cell.

McCain sees only another American.

He is incapable of thinking of Obama as he would those NVA guards. Even though Obama shares more political beliefs with them - than with McCain.

It is past time for McCain to be receiving a free pass on this.

Shut Up. McCain!

I sympathize with anyone who tries to follow JMac and he descends further into insanity. Pretty soon, what little spine he has is going to snap as keeps bending over backwards to kiss 0’s behind.
