2009 H1N1 Flu: Situation Update: The proportion of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza (P&I) based on the 122 Cities Report was low and within the bounds of what is expected at this time of year.

"Based on the most current information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we have been advised that the H1N1 flu is no more severe than the flu we commonly see, though it does represent a different strain of virus. The CDC has determined that closing schools will not stop the spread of the virus, since social gathering will continue outside of schools, and transmission may occur before symptoms are evident. Our best defense continues to be good hygiene and making sure those who are sick stay home."
In other words - this whole "H1N1" thing is not going to be any worse than any other flu season. I checked out the CDC's website and found basically the same information as given in the memo. The CDC tries to couch the information in the worst possible light, but obviously they have told at least one school district that this is not going to be a big deal as long as normal, sensible hygiene precautions are taken.
The question for me is - Where is this being said in the news? We continue to hear all the cries of "pandemic" flu season. The CDC report does say that visits to doctors regarding flu are up - but, that would make sense to me given all the hype about it.
“In other words - this whole “H1N1” thing is not going to be any worse than any other flu season.”
That’s right. The big death toll south of the equator never happened, and their flu season is nearly over now.....down there, it is now the equivalent of the end of March.
Any reports of widespread influenza activity in September are very unusual.
That's half the country.
The watermelon Czars are going to be sorely disappointed.

Nevadan: The uptick in reports could still be because of all the hype about this “pandemic”. But, obviously the CDC has told the Clark County (Las Vegas, Nevada) school district that the H1N1 is not going to be a big deal or the superintendent would never have given out a general letter stating this. District Superintendent Walt Ruffles is very good at CYA and I can’t imagine him putting out a memo like this without the CDC putting out the word that this “pandemic” is not going to materialize.
I’m not saying that the media is not over-hyping it, but rather that it’s too early to tell, I think.
For example, I live in a small town and we’ve had two H1N1-related deaths in the past couple weeks. At least that’s what the local media has said anyway.
And flu season tends to peak November through April, so it’s kind of early to make predictions in either direction, IMO.
Ruffles might be saying what he’s saying in order to minimize the number of people who prematurely seek out a vaccine which they might not need.
If the media goes nuts and tells me I should get the vaccine, I still won’t get it. I’d rather miss a month of work and get better on my own, the natural way, if possible.

Nevadan: You may very well be right, however my reason for posting this information is because this is the first “official” government-entity notice I’ve seen that has stated that H1N1 may not be the pandemic it’s been hyped up to be. Just thought this was worth passing on.
Bear in mind that "pandemic" has to do with the spread of disease and not the severity of disease.
I have several friends who have had confirmed cases of H1N1 Swine Flu. Their symptoms ranged from practically nothing to congestion with a fever.
IMHO, the Swine Flu has been greatly oversold.
Question: What is the difference between Bird Flu and Swine Flu?
Answer: For bird flu you need tweetment and for swine flu you need oinkment.
Yep, definitely. I'm glad you did. I didn't realize this is what they were saying. Thanks.
Just watch the left hand folks, just the left hand.
