Countdown '09: New Jersey and Virginia (41 Days)
RCP ^ | 09/23/09 | Mike Memoli

Posted on 09/23/2009 8:57:15 AM PDT by freespirited

NEW JERSEY (RCP Average: Christie +6.7)

*Christie leads by 7 in a new Rasmussen poll, with debates looming.

*The Republican called Corzine's investment in a hedge fund with ties to casino license holders a "colossal error in judgment."

*It's Obama/Corzine on at least one billboard.

*Rep. Rob Andrews (D) thinks the health care debate helps Corzine.

*Human Events says Corzine is in "disarray."

VIRGINIA (RCP Average: McDonnell +4.5)

*Deeds lays out his transportation plan in a Washington Post op-ed after taking heat from McDonnell for not having a plan. At a debate last week he was unclear whether he would be willing to raise taxes, though it's clear in the op-ed: "I'll sign a bipartisan bill with a dedicated funding mechanism for transportation -- even if it includes new taxes."

*Both candidates were courting the African American vote last night at Virginia Union University in Richmond.

*After hosting a debate last week, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce is set to endorse McDonnell.

*Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and former state Sen. John Chichester (R) defended the 2004 tax package Warner negotiated and pushed through the Legislature with bipartisan support. McDonnell did not vote for it when he was in the state Senate, and has criticized it on the campaign trail.

Buzz up!

McConnell needs to close STRONG. Expect the October Surprise / dirty trick from Deeds/ACORN/VEA/other cockroaches.

Corzine looks like a looser at this point. But don't count the Dems out yet.

In one of the most corrupt states in the Union, and with some of the most extra-constitutional jurists who have ever lived sitting on its Supreme Court, I wouldn't put it past the Dems to make another bait and switch as they did in the Torricelli case.

The GOP should BUY time on New Jersey TV and run “The Cartel”, an expose of the corruption and abuse of the NJEA in New Jersey and connect it with Corzine’s failure to rein in this rampaging behemoth.

Can anyone really expect Corzine to lose in NJ given the corrupt Rat political machine? Plus the VA race appears to be tightening up to the point that a heavy turnout in NOVA and the Tidewater could push the race to Deeds. Virginia demographics have changed over the last few years.

Of course.
Christie has been ahead in the RCP average polls non-stop since April, despite the “corrupt rat machine” and despite every mud slinging the RATS can have thrown at him. ACORN is under serious attack from everywhere right now. They are not as potent a fore for stealing elections as they used to be. They don't know what hidden camera may be watching their sleazy actvities right now.
Corzine is done. Christie will win in New Jersey.
As for Virginia, Deeds has been so busy self-destructing in the past week, McDonnell doesn't even have to do too much attacking to win. Deeds has been doing the attacking on Deeds all by himself. And McDonnell is still comfortably ahead in the polls

I have been in campaigns for 25 years. This one is one of the most compelling and effective tag lines I can remember. Chris has a great team and so far so good.

McDonnell is from Virginia Beach. Expect him to carry Tidewater. Deeds placards are few and far between here except for the inner cities (Portsmouth and Norfolk).
