Juarez authorities shut down unregistered rehab centers

Authorities in Juarez have closed ten unregistered drug rehabilitation centers following a pair of shootings that left 28 people dead.

The shootings took place at two of the rehab locations, and a spokesman from the office of the Juarez mayor says there is evidence drug cartels are recruiting members from unregulated centers.

The spokesman adds that some of these centers are grounds for cartel-related activity.

However, drug rehabilitation professionals assert that shutting down the centers may contribute to an increase in substance abuse.

Officials say they will continue to crack down and close rehab centers that violate the rules.

I imagine the drug cartels are recruiting members from regulated centers too.

Mexico has now decriminalized all drug usage, including cocaine, heroin, you name it.

All the violence at the border is being called “drug cartel war” related violence, but considering all the big power players in the municipal, state and federal law enforcement units have been ping ponging back and forth with various drug cartels, and violence and victims of the most heinous sort have not diminished, but have escalated near the borders; unemployment rates on the border are running as high as 50%; decentralized trades, crafts, and arts have greatly diminished in the past 10 years; most arts and crafts are now made in China and shipped to Mexico; sales techniques remain marking everything up 400% then haggling down to 125%; and monthly incomes for those with jobs are about 1/10th the income of US paid positions; hard crimes are not reported to the people for about a year after their occurence as they remain under investigation;...

...leads me to question if the actual crime rate on the border isn’t closer to 1 in 100 to 500 for murder and everything that is reported in the press, is simply labeled “drug cartel” related so as not to scare off tourism.
