Artic Sea Ice Minimum 2009 (greater than 2008)
National Snow and Ice Data Center ^ | Sep 17, 2009 | NSID

Posted on 09/20/2009 7:55:09 AM PDT by teevolt

On September 12, 2009 sea ice extent dropped to 5.10 million square kilometers (1.97 million square miles). This appears to have been the lowest point of the year, as sea ice has now begun its annual cycle of growth in response to autumn cooling. The 2009 minimum is the third-lowest recorded since 1979, 580,000 square kilometers (220,000 square miles) above 2008 and 970,000 square kilometers (370,000 square miles) above the record low in 2007.

“While this year’s minimum extent is above the record and near-record minimums of the last two years, it further reinforces the strong negative trend in summertime ice extent observed over the past thirty years.”

Especially if you’re influenced more by your politics than your science!!!!!

ANY science based on weather observations taken since 1979 is total and utter BS. It’s a useless statistic. You need THOUSANDS of years of data before you can draw meaningful conclusions.

They give scientists a bad name.

Manmade climate change is a HOAX, and all of our politicians know this. Cap-and-trade has two goals: 1) lowering the standard of living in the United States and 2) lining politicians’ pockets.

The insidious thing about it is that once Cap and Trade is in place, they will say that if you remove it, a disaster will unfold. It’s a psychosis waiting to happen.

“near record minimums” ???

Sea ice this year is 14% higher than 2008, 24.5% higher than 2007, and is now (as of Sept 20) greater than the extent covered in 2005 on the same date.

And still increasing.

In April-May 2009, sea ice extent was at the highest ever recorded from the same AMSRE record.

Are they lying? Welllll, not exactly. What they saying is “substantially correct” = “substandardly correct.”

From the data in the posted paragraph, it appears that the sea ice minimum increased by 150K sq mi from 2007-2008, and increased by 220K sq mi from 2008-2009. If that’s the case, then there is an acceleration in the change (+70K sq mi) to the minimum sea ice coverage. Not quite a hockey stick... yet.

Could there be a correlation between this data and reduced sun spot activity?

Could Obama have healed the planet so quickly?

IMPOSSIBLE. We are all going to die, cooked in the furnace of our own making. It's true because high-school science "C" student, AL GORE, told me it's true.

So what that science can't tell me what the temperature will be three weeks from today. What's important is they can tell me what the temperature will be 30 years from today, within one-half of a degree. They've got computers, and maps and an awesome Ouija board to make their predictions. What do you have, science hater?

ALL HAIL AL GORE - THE HIGH PRINCE OF THE GLOBAL THERMOMETER

and he knows exactly where to stick it

Weekend news cycles are for hiding information from the public. The MSM global warming priests will save this for Monday’s news, and bury that it’s been progressively better or spin it that this ‘is the first concrete evidence that action against global warming is already working.’

What I don't understand is if these news organizations "live or die" based on their credibility, why would they throw that credibility away for political correctness?

Note to all you old sailors out there: The Northern Sea Route across northern Siberia is basically open now. Russia can move here Atlantic fleet to the Pacific comparatively easily, if required.

I already have a problem with the data in the charts. The second chart shows a dark area which purports to show "plus and minus two standard deviations". Yet the chart also shows four recent years lying well outside the dark band.

Plus and minus 2 standard deviations encompasses 95% of the data. This means that only 5% would lie outside the band, on both sides. This would allow only one line above the band, and one below the band. since four are below the band, the band is inaccurate.

If a simple calculation as this is wrong, what else is wrong?
