Just for the record, the “authorities appointed by God” were Kings.... the verses are very true of course. However, the situations referred to in the Bible were not those of a free republic where people went to the polls and elected their officials. Rome was a republic to begin with but after much battle, it was overtaken and although referred to as a republic it was in fact not one. We can’t go to the polls and elect a clown and say “God put him there to be our authority.”

Therefore, it can very plausibly be argued that Obama is a tyrant and a usurper, and that Christians have NO duty to obey him.

God appoints ALL rulers of the world... including Hitler... including Obama.

God appoints them to carry out His will which includes judgment against a nation or people.

It does not say that those leaders whom He appoints carry God’s approval for what they wish to accomplish.

Just as God allows us to sin, and reap the consequences of that sin, He also allows (appoints) leaders to gain power in a sinful nation to do Satan’s will.

You know, I seem to recall that God occasionally appoints people to authority in order to put them in position to execute judgment on them.

The plural would indicate more then just the singularly elected president. It would include the conservative senators and congressman that I have voted for. Should they not be included as governing authorities? How about my conservative governor, state senator, or state rep? Should we ignore them to the benefit of King Obama.

Maybe we could consider that the governing authority is the US constitution, which acknowledges God as sovereign. I prefer that.
