All of the world's ancestors are immigrants from Africa. The few countries that tolerate huge numbers of illegal immigrant are of Anglo-Saxon origin.
Make a comment about Mexico being a "nation of eemeegrants" around her or in Mexico and stand back, cuz the fireworks will start. They refer to themselves as indigenous, although in what way Spaniards are "indigenous" I don't know.
The whole "nation of immigrants" rap is an attempt to de-legitimize the American nation by obliterating its ethnic origins. The fact that it is a nation founded by White Anglo-Saxon Protestants infuriates the Mexicans to this day because all of their national mythology had them as ruling all of North America. Reality has been far too brutal for them, so they have been on a chattering campaign to try and change it ever since the gringos started having pangs of self doubt (we can point to 1965 as the pivotal year for that).

Hey Eva! First of all, leave Tony for ME. Second of all, why don’t you spend some time talking to a French or Italian cab driver or small business owner and see what THEY think of immigrants or non-whites in general. Better yet, go to southern Mexico and ask the locals what they think of the Guats coming in. Such folks make the average white American look like a paragon of racial tolerance (which we are, compared to every other country/culture).
The derogatory term for an Italian, a Wop, is derived from the acronym WithOutPapers, i.e. immigration documents.

Lady, if you really want to see discrimination against immigrants, take a vacation to Eastern Europe or the Balkans. America is THE MOST open country in the world.

Lots of Italians got into this country semi-illegally via Panama, Cuba, or other countries which didn’t have restrictions placed on them at the time. Many also “jumped ship”, as you pointed out. And, no, they did NOT become “yankee doodle dandee” Americans. That only happened during WWII, when the older generation was “shamed” (many having supported Mussolini up until 1941), while the second generation “became American” due to their service in WWII. Prior to that Italian Americans were the most segregated “white” ethnic group in America (and to a certain extent, STILL were until the 60s).
It took three generations for European ethnics to assimilate, so you can imagine how long it will take for others to do so. Oddly enough, east Asians are from a RADICALLY different civilization (at least Latin America is part of the west) than white westerners, but their women seem to be marrying white guys like crazy on the coasts, so they are an outlier.
Maybe we should treat them the same way they do in her husband’s country. Settle them in segregated housing estates out of site of the native population. And no matter how long they have lived here, or how much they want to be Americans, never consider them a part of our country, ever. Then when can be as enlightened as France.
We welcome immigrants as long as they came here legally.
We know that those who come here (legally) are usually our most productive citizens.
We also know that new immigrants (legal variety) are often the strongest supporters of the US Constitution.
Can’t say any of those things about the (Illegal) variety who come here to take, to benefit from our system without being responsible, won’t learn our language or customs and then complain when they are criticized for being (Illegal).

If I understand correctly, Eva was born in South Texas. However, she takes the stand she does because she is (again, this is only if I understand it right) an anchor baby.
