Wrath of God is TV's next big hit

THE hit series Underbelly is among shows under fire from a major Christian group demanding tougher rules on sex and violence on TV.

With standards governing on-screen content being reviewed for the first time in six years, the Australian Christian Lobby launched the "Tame the Tube" campaign to combat what it says are industry attempts to weaken TV standards.

"Sex, violence and foul language are normal fare these days as TV networks push the boundaries," ACL managing director Jim Wallace said.

ACL said it had about 10,000 registered supporters, mainly from orthodox and evangelical churches.

As well as wanting less "smut" and swearing on TV, the group also called for tighter restrictions on the promotion of M, MA and AV programs at times when children watch TV.

For example, Mr Wallace said Underbelly should not be able to be advertised in earlier time slots.

Why do parents allow children to watch trash? I’m amazed by the number of (admittedly American) households where children have TVs, computers and game systems in their BEDROOMS.

It’s insanity.

Looking for the return of shows like Leave it to Beaver (Father Knows Best, My Three Sons, etc.)

There is a much better way to solve the problem. Stop watching TV, especially the major networks. Shut down the cable, tear off the dish, and bury the rabbit ears.

If you must have a fix, buy the DVD package sets of shows you and your family can watch. Even Discovery and National Geographic put out fantastic shows on DVD. Once enough of us stop watching, the ad revenue drys up, and the networks have to change their programming.

Turn the damn thing off.

I have no idea what “Underbelly” is but if parents did their jobs, the show wouldn’t have an audience.

The protesters should really be protesting the idiots having kids these days.

The audience is salivating for more smut, more sex scenes and more violence on the hellivision.

It’s the 21st century. My children can watch television and movies anywhere on their telephones.

Unlimited plans, voice, data, text. I’m never surprised by a bill because it’s the same every month.
