WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration is holding off major decisions that could put its military forces on a firmer war footing in Afghanistan even as doubts grow about whether the United States can win there.

Many military and diplomatic leaders have urged President Barack Obama to send thousands more Marines, soldiers and pilots to try to reverse Afghanistan's crumbling security situation.

But White House spokesman Robert Gibbs has said no decision about adding troops is expected for "weeks and weeks," following what he described as intensive evaluation. The troop decision will be a first indicator of whether Obama intends to double down in Afghanistan, becoming a wartime president in earnest.

Right now, Obama is too busy trying to re-install a drug dealing Marxist dictator in Honduras.

With the leadership we have today, we won’t win this war. It’s not our military, they are fantastic. It’s the leadership from the top down. Since I believe this to be the case, bring our troops home.

Here is the problem. Dem’s don’t want us anywhere except where our military is used as a meals on wheels program.

They hated both AFG and Iraq but to make President Bush look bad they decided to support one action location and not the other.

Now they are stuck.

O doesn't have time to be CIC. He's too busy giving campaign speeches every day. What a lightweight.

How many more years is it going to be Bush's fault? Saw a Dem operative on Fox this morning explaining that the bad economy was Bush's fault.

What a bunch of goofball liars!

Any way ya look at it Afghanistan is Zero’s war an this punk is politicizing it instead of winning it.
The Head General should resign and explain why.
Cause Zero refuses to act as necessary to win or protect the troops.

The opinions of FReepers on an escalation in Afghanistan should not be based on disdain for Obama but on strategic considerations.

There is one way to win this war: Kill the enemy.

If the National Command Authority doesn’t have the stomach for that, we should yank our troops out and be done with it.

The troops are magnificent. The civilian leadership is soft as a grape. That’s not good.

re: even as doubts grow about whether the United States can win there

There's no doubt that we can win this war, all it takes is the political will to do so. We are not without the means to win ANY war we choose to enter. What we lack is the leadership in the White House to win. Obama has already said he doesn't like the word “victory” when it comes to our troops.

We are heading, full speed ahead, into a terrible situation where we will accomplish nothing other than get our brave fighting troops killed. Never thought I would be an anti-war person, but it's my firm opinion that if we don't have what it takes to do what it takes to win this war then we need to bring our troops home, without delay.

We haven't learned have we? When you go to war you fight to win or you get the hell out! Anything less is negligence bordering on being criminal.

Obama and Democrats have always said that Afghanistan and the war against Al Qaeda was the real war we should fight, not Iraq. Obama has made moves to increase our forces in Afghanistan. Now Dems. are in a position to put their money where there mouth is. Is this war in Afghan. worth it; is the search for Bin Laden worth it; is the goal of breaking the back of Al Qaeda worth it?

Dems. are in charge now, we’ll see in the months and years ahead what the consequences of their decisions are.
