I know I’m late to this party, but just yesterday I was out to lunch with my 80+ mom. She is fairly conservative, but still thinks the MSM are the rock solid, true journalists of when she was young (well, whether they really were or not.) We’ve been trying for years to get her to tune into Fox. Well FINALLY yesterday at one point in the conversation, a couple of things I said really startled, scared her, and she said where do you hear these things? (We were talking about my husband and my opinion on the stock market vs. all the happy talk you hear on the MSM. She’s lived through the depression and depends on her stocks so is truly frightened about the future). I went over one more time about how the old media cannot be trusted and talked about FOX (she’s not online yet but I’m going to work on that this fall). She called me yesterday afternoon and I helped her figure out what number it was on her cable service and told her which shows to watch and which to avoid. So if she is finally opening up to watching some different news, I bet there are a lot of other older folks out there who are waking up, too. She is pretty sharp when she has the facts,and still very active for her age. She never fails to vote, even in the smallest primary or off year election. I always see people like her manning the precinct election places at voting time. So I agree, if we can get the older crowd to wake up and get informed, watch out... Then we need to work on the college, 20’s age crowd...
Oh I got it, you are blaming McCain and Bush for the woes of the GOP, in fact it is the voters who elect these people who are to blame, not the people who are there... this is happening to our country because people are too interested in anything but what is going on in DC.. voting is something most people think about every four years and never pay attention to in between... so don’t blame the people in DC, they get their power from the ill informed and lazy American.
Your Mom sort of reminds me of my Aunt. My Mamma helped get her Internet connected about five years ago and my Aunt is in her 80s too. Before that, she had a “classic” view of politics and the news in general. But not anymore! I get her emails! She’s LIVID about the things that are happening! I point her to threads here at FR once in awhile. I think it’s going to be a lot easier to get the older crowd “corrected” than the younger crowd... but we’ll see.
Rush was right about this in September ‘09 and he’s STILL right! ;-)

Rush is 100% correct on this. Third party candidates always cause trouble. This next time around would be catastrophic.
