GOP provides backing for Obama's war effort [McCain, Cantor helping Obama]

Facing fire from his own party over the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, President Obama is getting cover from an unlikely source: Republicans.

Sen. John McCain of Arizona and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia are among a growing faction of congressional Republicans speaking up for the Democratic president as he faces questions of whether to escalate the U.S. troop presence in an increasingly bloody conflict.

Mr. Cantor, who has helped lead the fight in the House GOP caucus against much of Mr. Obama's domestic agenda, voiced support Friday for Mr. Obama's willingness to carry the fight to the Taliban and al Qaeda forces that have stepped up attacks on U.S. and international forces in recent days.

"I applaud the president for his continued support for the war in Afghanistan and for his commitment to provide the men and women in uniform and for the generals on the battlefield the necessary resources to achieve victory," Mr. Cantor said Friday.

My bet is that Gates is the one really calling the shots—which is good. If Obama didn’t keep Gates on board, we’d be screwed.

My guess is that Obama kept Gates on board so that Obama could focus more on health care and other domestic issues, and leave the wars to the grown-ups.

Gates is no good either. Never has been.

The new rules of engagement in Afghanistan reflect Obama’s despicable declaration from the campaign trail in which he accused US forces of air raiding villages and killing civilians.

But the implications of America abandoning the battlefield in Afghanistan are too terrible to contemplate.

The mujihadeen believe that it was their defeat of the Soviet Army in Afghanistan that brought down the entire Soviet Union.

If they chase us out of Afghanistan—or think that they have—they will smell blood and they WILL follow us around the world, including here. Because they think they will be able to defeat us and impose Shariah in America.

It seems ridiculous to us, but not to them. They think they brought down the Soviets. They believed that the Soviets were a tougher enemy than we are. They believe all sorts of crazy things. They will believe that they can defeat us and they will act on that belief—and not just in Kabul and Baghdad.

When I saw the title related to -13bama’s war effort, I figured it was a thread against Republicans and/or the American people.

This is where Republicans and conservatives should show what patriotism means. If the war efforts need to be backed up, even though it might help 0bama, I think we need to offer help — as long as we consider the efforts crucial for winning the war. Remember how we hated the Dims for trying to undermine any war efforts only for their political expedience.

I have no issue with Republicans helping him if the goal is victory in the WOT.

Principle over politics. Winning the WOT which includes the battle in Afghanistan means far more to me than allowing it to fail so it can be used as a political football. That’s what Liberals did and it was despicable.

obama’s new Rules of Engagement are getting our troop killed - to protect the Taliban

August was the deadliest month of the war! Now this - sept is shaping up to be worse. Where's the media outrage now?

Read this story of this battle the other day - email the link to beck, et al -

we must fight for our troops...obama wont.

I’m not sure how much though that Gates has a say in the rules of engagement. He’s definitely walking a fine line between common sense coming from the military and the nutcases in the State Department and DoJ. I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes right now.

It’s evident you’re not aware of this administrations new ROE’s?

Our troops are sent out like ducks in a shooting gallery - and not allowed air cover...and they are now getting killed at the highest rate since the war began.

Nothing on news about this. August was the deadliest month of the war - and sept is shaping up worse...

read the story of this battle the other day - and ask yourself: Why was Gen. McKiernan unprecedentedly dismissed and McClatchy put in? McClatchy has set up these new Rules of Engagement - think he didn’t get his orders from his CIC?

Our troops are being sent out like fodder - start screaming, people.

Read this story of the battle - email the link to beck, et al -

we must fight for our troops...obama wont.

glad to see someone is aware of what's really going on. You are spot on on all counts.

I have been told by someone who has access up high that the ‘rationale’, if you will, for the new ROE is that, although it will result in higher causalities for our troops, it will be worth it in the long run.

Makes me ill to think of these people - especially this puky socialist/muslim sympathizer - being in a position to target our troops - and that is what they are doing.

SCREAM, folks. Demand our troops be able to defend themselves.
.

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/75036.html the new troops that obama talks about sending is a smoke screen. they won't be 'fighting' troops but trainers for the Afghani troops - and they say that will take years before there are enough - meanwhile, our troops are defensless.

Zero is in this game because he likes those poppy fields. You don’t take combat troops and make them into community organizers and social workers.

Follow the money...Odinga could care less about our security or our troops.
