Andrew Card won’t seek Kennedy’s seat

Republican Andrew Card, former chief of staff to President George W. Bush, burned up the phone lines yesterday, gauging support for a possible run for Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s former seat but decided to opt out, one of his closest advisers said.

Former Republican National Committee chairman Ron Kaufman, an advisor and friend to Card, confirmed tonight that the former Holbook state representative, U.S. transportation secretary and White House chief of staff will not run

IIRC next week the Legislature will consider. I wouldn’t count on it passing.

Schilling has to run as an Independent. He is registered as unenrolled in MA. If he switches to Rep he can, but for the Senate special election he can’t at this time

Or we can support conservative Republican state senator Scott Brown, who could actually run in the GOP primary (and thus he wouldn’t have to worry about a GOP nominee insisting on staying on the general-election ballot).
