Baucus wants “life style” taxes: how about taxing Gays, urban Black males costly risky lifestyles?
The Collins Report ^ | September 10, 2009 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

Posted on 09/10/2009 6:04:52 AM PDT by jmaroneps37

Max Baucus wants to “curb activities that increase overall health care costs.”

A new healthcare bill being peddled by Baucus will reportedly contain proposals for “lifestyle taxes.” They’ll have a duel purpose: raising revenue and encouraging Americans to adopt what Senator Baucus deems “wealthy lifestyles choices that promote wellness.”

Presumably because he thinks drinking is “bad” and drinkers are easy targets the Baucus bill includes “ Increase[d] Taxes on Alcoholic Beverages.”

Max also aims to “Impose an Excise Tax on Sugar Sweetened Beverages.” Fat people and children use lots of sugar, so “government” has to make sugar expensive because obesity “drives up health care costs within the system.”

It is hard to say what drinkers and the obese cost us, but in this egalitarian socialist new world of Barack Obama’s vision all comrades should be equal- no?

How about taxing other “costly lifestyles” Max?

Two other groups who’s purely voluntary lifestyles and conduct cost America huge healthcare dollars are being overlooked.

Male homosexuals

In August the Centers for Disease Control reported homosexual sex produces AIDS cases at a rate 50 times higher than the rates for the general population.

How about a special “healthcare reimbursement” tax for male homosexuals to help defray our costs for their lifestyle?

Young Urban Black males

Northeastern University reports many Young Urban Blacks males live a very violent lifestyle which is very costly for us. They stab and shoot each other filling our hospitals at an alarming rate. Certainly some form of encouragement from Senator Baucus could steer these young men toward “healthier lifestyle choices.” We need a way to tax their behavior.

Somehow I don’t think Max will have the nerve to institute either one of these taxes. For gutless liberals drinkers fat people and little kids who love sweets are much easier targets.

I wish someone on our side with a bigger platform would raise this issue.

I’d say a sodomy tax would be a good start. Given what it now costs to screen blood donations alone.

The gay lifestyle is sickening and should never, ever be encouraged.

Hold on there. Sodomy comes in several varieties and flavors. Do you want to be taxed for going down on your wife or getting a hummer?

When my wife was a newly minted nurse she worked in the post-ER wing of an “urban” hospital. This was where folks who had been stabilized were sent, pending subsequent treatment. She told me everyone there referred to that particular ward as the “Gun and Knife Club.”

On one side of the debate, I hear the 3 card monte dealer in chief saying his approach will not add anything to the deficit because removing fraud from medicare and putting records on line will save many billions. Also on that side of the debate, I hear a prominent senator saying we need to tax everything under the sun and increase current taxes on the “wealthy” to accommodate the liar's objective. Seems to me that side of the debate is all about two things, reducing current benefits and increasing taxes. On the other side of the debate, I hear we need a change to the current system and we need to accommodate that by insuring CITIZENS only, fixing the jackpot tort system, removing insurance restrictions, and not raising taxes in a recession.

Seems to me, both sides are planning on increasing the size of the deficit no matter what approach is taken as it is simple arithmetic: more covered means higher costs. I believe the GOP version would result in a smaller deficit but let's not kid ourselves here, just like with the prescription drug benefit simple minded Bush pushed through against the wishes of the conservatives, it was advertised to cost 20% of what the actual costs have been, even with the donut hole both sides now want to eliminate!

We need 535 NEW representatives in DC IMO. I cannot stomach these people anymore.

Vince

Too little, too late; they probably could have paid off the deficit with what they’d have collected from Ted Kennedy. Of course, there’s still Bawhney Fwank....

Wash’t there a report, I think I read it on FR, that showed that “healthy” people actually have the highest total medical costs from birth to death?

Max Baucus wants to “curb activities that increase overall health care costs.”

Welfare mothers popping out babies like bullets? Lack of exercise by social dependents? The liberal lifestyle crap taught to the kids in the public schools?

How does he plan on taxing left wing lifestyles? How is he going to get them to pay anything at all? They can't even pay for their own condoms.

Max is apparently an idiot. There are VERY few sugar sweetened beverages in America. Almost all are sweetened with corn syrup, largely because government protective tariffs have kept sugar prices in USA about twice the world price, mostly to protect US sugar growers so they can more effectively destroy the Everglades.

There is some evidence that corn syrup is more effective at causing obesity than sugar.

So this has been a sort of hat trick of government unintended consequences:

1. Make consumers pay a lot more for products.

2. Cause or contribute to an increased incidence of obesity.

3. Cause significant environmental damage to a highly sensitive area.
