OK, but what were the Russians given in return? The Russians did not do this out of the kindness of their hearts.

It will give the Ruskis a chance to buzz American military jets. Something jet-jocks get off on.

Ahhh! Cheap thrills. I guess that might come in handy in case of a vodka shortage.

Georgia. If Bush wouldn’t stand up for Georgia, there’s no way Obama would/will.

Or it could be that, in the past year, the price of natural gas went from of $13.60 to $2.66, and Russia needs every last bit of revenue it can get.

Of the two, I think Russia needed the money.

OK, it's probably both. Obama sells out the Georgians. And in addition the Russians get money. And once the Russians get their money and the price of natural gas goes up, they can renege on the deal. What a great deal for them.
