Sacramento homeless erect new tents hours after eviction

Within hours after being rousted from their "safe ground" campsite in downtown Sacramento on Wednesday morning, homeless men and women were putting up new tents and preparing for another potential confrontation with police.

Fifteen police officers cut a lock and entered the property on C Street between 12th and 14th streets where about 30 homeless people have slept for the past 10 days, cited them for illegal camping and seized their tents, sleeping bags and other possessions as evidence.

The show of force drew TV satellite trucks, homeless advocates, attorneys and others to the property, which a local civil rights lawyer has leased to a coalition advocating for a safe place for campers to sleep without police interference. The scene was largely peaceful.

"Our view is that the camping ordinance itself is illegal," said lawyer Mark Merin, who owns the land and has long championed homeless causes, as he stood in a dark suit and tie amid his tattered clients at the scene. "We will challenge it on its face in court."

John Kraintz, who is homeless and had been living at the site, said he was disappointed at the police action. Despite a complaint from a neighbor who has said the campground is disruptive, "everything has been calm here," he said. "We have had no major fights or trouble. We felt safe."

Kraintz and others were busy assembling new tents provided by church groups and others in the community, and said they planned to sleep on the property again tonight.

The homeless rabble needs to camp somewhere that the ruling elites won’t have to see them.

Bring on the Cat D-10’s and doze them out.
Downtown San Diego is being turned into a slumper party on the streets. Crime goes with these people since many are substance abusers, mental cases and sociopaths.
It seems that law enforcement has nearly given up and the courts are on their side tearing up laws.

Except nowadays, a lot of folks are ending up in tents who are now long-term unemployed - and with Obama in charge, they are probably going to remain long-term unemployed for a while. What is needed is some kind of monitored camping areas/tent cities with some rules, basic sanitation and law enforcement, IMO. But that requires foresight and the admission by governmental entities that they have to think outside the box.

If the property owner wants the homeless to camp on his property, I have no problem with it.

Zoning laws make my skin crawl.

It will be funny however when the homeless sue the property owner for unsanitary conditions (whatever).

I suggest the landowner, (and tent suppliers), get the homeless to sign waivers, however worthless they may wind up being.
