Virginia Governor: McDonnell 51% Deeds 42%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | Sept 2, 2009 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 09/02/2009 10:46:37 AM PDT by yongin

In the race to become the next Governor of Virginia, Republican Robert F. McDonnell retains a steady lead over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Virginia voters finds McDonnell leading Deeds 51% to 42%. That’s little changed from a month ago when McDonnell held the advantage 49% to 41%. All of those figures include “leaners.” Leaners are those who initially indicate no preference for either of the candidates but answer a follow-up question and say they are leaning towards a particular candidate.

The survey was conducted shortly after news stories broke about a thesis paper written by McDonnell in 1989. The thesis reflected very conservative views on the role of women in society and other topics. To this point, just 49% of Likely Voters say they’ve followed news stories on this topic even somewhat closely. Twenty-four percent (24%) say they’ve followed the stories Very Closely.

Thirty-six percent (36%) say the writings are at least somewhat important in terms of how they will vote. Forty-nine percent (49%) say they’re not important. Nearly half of all Democrats consider the thesis important while two-thirds of Republicans say they are not. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 32% say the writings are important including 18% who say they are Very Important.

It is possible that the thesis itself or the views expressed in the document could become a bigger factor in the campaign this fall.

Deeds shot his silver bullet early because he had to and now he is getting no movement to show for it! Beautiful.

Get to volunteering and help the whole ticket.

The third big race is the NYC Mayorship. Bloomberg is no longer calling himself a Republican, but he will (unfortunately) run on that line for November against a regular Democrat for a 3rd term (which he’ll probably win).

I laugh at the smear ads comparing McDonnell to Bush.

Pravda's...er...WaPo's actions on this have been disgusting.

Those morons will get even more strident in October and it will be front page to back page coverage just before the election.

Their sales are in the tank and flushing further but they will go with their failed ideology to get the Communist outcome they want.

After all that garbage, it hasn’t hurt McDonnell in the least. Gee whiz, what will they throw up against him next since it didn’t work ?

It’s time to stand up to the media. That is what the Republican party is missing. I know they will try to destroy you, but I’m sick of those who trash us and we don’t fight back & fight back hard. How about this: Call a press conference

WaPo writer: A least you can see my thesis, when are you going to ask Obama to release his? Demand to see Obama’s paperwork. Lets see all of the paperwork that Obama has spent millions hiding. Why would anyone spend millions to keep their past thoughts, work hidden? How about Hillary? Obama has 3 committed and admitted unaccountable communist czars working for him. (He said if you want to know how I will governor-look at the people I have surrounded myself with) When are you going to investigate those people who are paid by the American people but don’t have to answer to the people. Obama can let them carry out is socialist agenda and can claim he did not know what they were doing. They need oversight. Obama has surrounded himself with people who hate the US. When are you going to talk about the criminals in the Obama administration??? How many did not pay taxes? How many broke other laws? Obama himself admitted to using crack in his book. But that was never on the front page of your paper.

I see your using Alinsky rules. Alinsky, the communist organizer who was Barrack Obama’s political lodestar, prescribes a simple strategy to win: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” The Post has launched a bald-faced attempt to “freeze” GOP candidate Robert McDonnell. It would be funny if it were not such a serious breach of journalistic ethics.

You leftist in the media are just like Obama, you want to change this country – take God out – replace him with socialism, marxism, communism.
Everyone should state where he/she stands on what they really think of the US vs. China, Russia, Cuba ideology. Which is better. Be honest with Americans and tell them why you hate conservatives. Because you love communism, God, morality?

Look at the people who have stood up to those who wants to hurt our country. They are now in the history books. Be brave, be courageous.

Thank you,

There’s a lot of thought out there that the WaPo and the Deeds campaign conspired for this to hit right before the end of the next campaign fundraising reporting period. Thought was it was more important to generate cash in order to stay in the game than to play this as an October surprise.

Oops.

NJ and VA are the only two this year
my hope is that not only do they both go R but that the legislatures go R as well
redistricting is in 2010 and we can use any help we can get removing Pelosi as Speaker

Which tells ME that the major donors aren't touching Deeds.
