MIAMI (AP) - The father of Terri Schiavo, who became a national symbol in a closely watched right-to-die fight, has died, his son said Saturday. Robert Schindler was 71.
Schindler, a tireless activist through years of legal wrangling, died from heart failure at a hospital in St. Petersburg. Terri Schiavo, who courts ruled was in a "persistent vegetative state," died in 2005 after the feeding tube that had nourished her for years was removed according to her husband's wishes.

He tried to do the right thing. Rest in peace.
He’s with Terri, and they’re both in peace.
Oh, my. How very sad. Prayers.
That he was .. a sainted warrior for his daughter
and life. God rest his soul. May he and Terri
be rejoicing in Heaven this night.
I am so sorry to hear this. May he rest in peace.
Prayers for them all.
Also sorry to see the misrepresentation of the autopsy.
A vegetative state is a medical “construct” and not a definitive fact.
Reunited. Rest in peace, Robert.
Ping!
I would have fought just as hard for my daughter. RIP, Mr. Schindler. God Bless you and your family.
What a great father he was!
Notice the article states "courts ruled was in a "persistent vegetative state"... Same courts that 'legally' dehydrated her to death. But the Supreme Court of the Universe has the final say!
God rest his soul.
I believe that he and Terry are both at rest with God.
Rest In Peace, Mr. Schindler.

I love the Schindler family. All the stress of the killing of Terri, and all the fallout, surely contributed to Bob Schindler’s death. Rest in peace.
AMEN! He fought with all he had for Terri...so sorry to hear he has passed away. May God comfort his family.

The OUTRAGE Perpetrated upon Terry, and her family, Will NOT be Forgotten!

Powerful and so true. Thank you for posting.
Remember that Congress had asked the courts to re-open and re-examine the case but the judicial tyrants thumbed their noses. Also Jeb Bush should have rescued Terri despite the little blind baldy (gollum-like) swamp judge Greer’s ruling
but alas-—Jeb wimped out. I’m convinced that was the moment to change it all around and spare Terri’s life!
Then again—we live in an era of leaderless, failed and gutless politicians.
You sir are so entirely correct. Perfectly said, with a most astute summation.
Thank you for your clarity.
I will never forget how the State sanctioned Terri's murder. And I will NEVER forget how Jeb just sat around like a lost puppy.
That inaction not only cost Terri her life (though not actually attributable to Jeb), but it cost him ANY chance of further political office.
The biggest friggin' joke on Republicans was earlier this year when Romney and Jeb somehow tried an alliance. The Hindenburg Team. Unfreakin' believable.
Go home to Terri....she’s waiting for you......
Yes, and if the GOP tries to run JEB in 2012, THIS needs to be tossed in his face BEFORE he even gets Into the Primary gate.
I’m sure she was there to meet him and thank him for his love for her,
You are a good man, Mr. Schindler. Rest in peace.
RIP Mr. Schindler. This brings back the memories of the tearful frustration and anguish over the unbelievable injustice done to Terri and family. Sickening and horrific to watch it unfold before our eyes via the internet.
I'm sure his mother was there to meet him and thank him for pulling the plug on her breathing machine.
I used to listen to him fight for Terri on so many shows. He never gave up, and always kept Terri’s spirits high.
He was a good man. He will be missed.

Lord Jesus, you healed so many people during your public ministry. I bring before you now, in prayer, all those who are terminally ill -- those afflicted with cancer, AIDS, and other illnesses.
|
|
Look lovingly and compassionately upon them. Let them feel the strength of your consolation. Help them and their families to accept this cross they are asked to carry. Protect them from euthanasia, Lord.
|
|
Let them see you carrying their cross with them, at their side, as you once carried yours to Calvary. May Mary be there, too, to comfort them.
|
|
Lord Jesus, I know and believe that, if it is your will, you can cure those I pray for (especially N.). I place my trust in you. I pray with faith, but I also pray as you did in Gethsemane: your will be done.
|
|
Bless us, Lord, and hear my prayer. Amen.
