Kennedy 'joked about Chappaquiddick'Biographer reveals deadly incident was a 'favorite topic of humor' August 28, 2009
"Edward Klein, speaking to WAMU guest host Katty Kay, said one of Kennedy's 'favorite topics of humor was, indeed, Chappaquiddick.'
"He would ask people, 'Have you heard any new jokes about Chappaquiddick?' said Klein, a former Newsweek foreign editor and former editor in chief of the New York Times Magazine."

YouTube video: Kennedy liked to joke about Chappaquiddick?
"This isn't an accusation from Ted Kennedy's political opponents, but a nostalgic remembrance by one of his friends. Ed Klein, former Newsweek editor, tells the Diane Rehm Show:
"I dont know if you know this or not, but one of his favorite topics of humor was indeed Chappaquiddick itself. And he would ask people, have you heard any new jokes about Chappaquiddick? That is just the most amazing thing. Its not that he didnt feel remorse about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, but that he still always saw the other side of everything and the ridiculous side of things, too."

I mentioned Mary Jo to my 27 and 30 year old sons. They were completely clueless. Never knew about what Kennedy did. I just assumed they did...I was shocked.

Interesting that she worked for Senator Smathers who was very conservative then for Robert Kennedy who was really liberal.

I don’t wish to be unjust to pigs, but Ted Kennedy was a swine. Mary Jo could have lived if that sociopath had just knocked on a few doors. Dizgusting.

"Kopechne, a former campaign worker for the late Sen. Bobby Kennedy, was one of six single women at a party with the married Ted Kennedy and several other married men. Kennedy said he was taking Kopechne back to the ferry landing for a return trip to Martha's Vineyard when he took a wrong turn and drove off a bridge.
He managed to escape but left Kopechne behind and didn't report the accident until the next day when he saw police had discovered the body."

For the record, I didn’t post this in Breaking News. Someone else apparently moved it there afterward.

No autopsy - is there any truth to the rumor she was pregnant, or was that the Marilyn Monroe rumor? So many women, so little time when one is a Kennedy...

May Mary Jo Kopechne RIP.
Just turned on Fox News. This deification of Teddy Kennedy on tv is reaching absurd levels. A disgusting display glorifying a truly despicable creature.

Interesting fact: both of her parents lived to about 90 years old. So she may well have lived a long life also.
The new family tombstone, erected after the death of Mary Jo's mother in December, 2007.
