To the surprise of no one, Rep. Duncan Hunter is following closely in the footsteps of Rep. Duncan Hunter.
Like his father, who retired in January after 28 years in Congress, the younger Hunter is a combat veteran whose top legislative priorities are national defense and immigration. They are both avid outdoorsmen who often go hunting and fishing together. And both, of course, are staunch conservative Republicans.
It was a seamless transition from one to the other, said Mike Cully, president of the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce. They're cut from the same cloth.
Seamless indeed.
Hunter didn't just inherit his father's political office. He inherited his district office, phone number, two-thirds of his staff and is carrying some of the same bills. During last year's campaign, Hunter operated out of his father's old campaign headquarters.
And then there's the name. Although the two have different middle names, they both go by Duncan Hunter.
At least they do now. Last year, the younger Hunter filed to run for Congress as Duncan D. Hunter, even though he seldom used his middle initial, to differentiate himself from his father.
When he dropped the D upon being sworn in, it caused some confusion.
Joe Kasper, who has been press secretary for both Hunters, said that during the younger Hunter's first national TV interview, the network flashed a biography of his father, leaving viewers with the impression that the 32-year-old freshman was a 28-year veteran of the House who fought in the Vietnam War.

D2 Ping
Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, read to a group of children last week during a visit to a medical center in Alpine. Peggy Peattie / Union-Tribune
“Amazing. A fair, unslanted article about the Hunters.”
There will be someone along soon from the Kennedy wing of the GOP to spread some disinformation. There are still way too many republicans who want amnesty.
Thanks for the ping.
I suppose it should be B4DH2

It’s not that they really want amnesty, it’s that their chosen candidate does. Hence the disinfo.
I just crack up everytime I think of Hugh Hewitt. Lifetime achiever in the Michael Medved open borders RINO club. UNtil Mitt decided he needed to do a 180 and sound tough on the border. Then Hugh started squawking as if he was a border hawk. Cracks me up still.
Duncan Hunter retired in January?? I hadn't even heard that. No wonder we never hear about him anymore. People are tossing his name around as a potential Presidential candidate.
Medved is for open borders??
He’s amnesty’s biggest cheerleader, next to Juan McCain.

He wasn’t the only one. Newt became a ‘close the border’ guy during the election, as did Fred Thompson.
And Huck. Only Rudy and McLame were holdouts. And McLame won, so there are obviously way to many Medvedian republicans around to sabotage conservatism.
Duncan Hunter (the senior) is the man the GOP should have run for President last year. Duncan Hunter and Sarah Palin in 2012, if there’s anything left of America by then.
I caught a brief news clip interview of Duncan D a few months ago. He was quite impressive. He could be a political contender in the future.

That’s great stuff
I greatly admired his father. He is still my favorite and an example of a politician out to serve his country faithfully and honorably. These are bad days for our country and I’m happy to see his son who is a hero in his own right show his own strengths and having learned well from the best. We need fighters like this and Duncan D. is in the position to point out the radical nature of our government leaders right now. He needs to be a strong voice and I’m sure he will.
You got that right
“Duncan Hunter and Sarah Palin”
That’s my dream ticket!
Duncan Hunter (the senior) is the man the GOP should have run for President last year.
I agree. I voted for him. In my opinion, were he to get back into the fray he is the only one tough enough to turn this train wreck around. And that includes Palin, a good woman, but she is nowhere near as tough as the ex-Ranger and Vietnam veteran Duncan Hunter.
If we can’t have Duncan senior, Duncan junior will do. Two peas in a pod.
