Please. Racism is alive and well south of the border. The lighter skinned and more Spanish looking you are the better you are treated. The darker and more “el Indio” you look, the worse you are treated. Mexican popular culture offers some evidence of this. If you ever see the Spanish speaking television channels, their depiction of the ideal of female beauty is usually a a classic, European looking beautiful woman, with a lean, feminine and curvy body and mostly fine, pretty Caucasian facial features. Pan to the audience and it's a bunch of very Mexican looking men and women cheering, hooting & hollering. Switch back to the stage and the ideal of feminine beauty as presented is basically a Caucasian standard.
