Obama island's Brazilian 'engine'

Barack Obama will soon follow in the footsteps of US Presidents Bill Clinton and John F Kennedy by holidaying on Martha's Vineyard.

But behind the scenes of the exclusive island getaway, the BBC's Bruno Garcez finds an army of immigrant Brazilian workers tending lawns and waiting on tables.

Mauricio Brandao is one of about 3,000 Brazilians in Martha's Vineyard "During his visit to Martha's Vineyard, Barack Obama will play golf in a course set up by Brazilians, eat meals prepared by Brazilian cooks and swim in a pool which was cleaned by workers from Brazil."

So predicts Mauricio Brandao, a 28-year-old Brazilian who has spent the past 12 years in Martha's Vineyard, a sophisticated resort and a traditional summer destination for Hollywood stars and politicians.

He works on the island as a horse trainer, but defines himself as a "fixer" who grabs any job available - with a preference for work offered by those he refers to as "the high-ranking people".

Mr Brandao knows the place where Mr Obama is likely to stay with his family well. The Blue Heron Farm is a 28.5-acre vacation home with rooms ranging from $35,000 to $50,000 per week, according to local newspaper the Vineyard Gazette.

I have a house worth $1m and have a licence to rent 300 bicycles. In Brazil, I could not afford my own bicycle Aguimar Carlos The official data provided by the administrator of Oak Bluffs - one of the island's six towns - backs up Mr Brandão's prediction.

There are roughly 3,000 Brazilians in Martha's Vineyard, out of a population of 15,000.

Mr Brandao said: "The Brazilians are the engine of the island. They are the ones who make it happen."

Tell me again how poor, racially oppressed little Bambi is suffering?

I suppose his house will be staffed by illegal Brazilians.
Boston and MA seems to be the destination of a lot of illegal Brazilians.
Wish they would go home.

Funny, about 20 years ago most of the illegals on MV were Irish, of the bitterly anti-English persuasion, no less.

“O” doesn’t see them as an army of immigrants. He sees them as an army of Democrat voters waiting to be enfranchised.

I just know that was the correct wording and the editor proofed it out. The democrats are doing all they can to keep Americans working.

Just another PRIME example of blatant hypocrisy on the part of the guy who lives in the white house and lectures us on “warmer houses in the summer...cooler in the winter(wear sweaters, etc.)in other words...do as he says, NOT as he does....and how about all those carbon footprints left by Air Force 1....he's like a teen ager with a new car ....can't bear to have that toy sit...gotta get in it and fly hither and yon....but then, he's the “one” , don't ya know??

Rumor has it that the stimulus package has 10-20 Billion in it for Brazil for develmpment of oil.

First- That money is American money, and I don’t want our money going to Brazil.

Second- hasn’t there been a blitz media campaign in the past 3 years about how “progressive” Brazil was in their ethanol production?

Why are we spending money down there for their jobs and their oil???

Mitt Romney seems to have preferred illegal Guatemalans at his “Sanctuary Mansion”.

I think it is auto-enfranchizement.

Especially for Brazilians because Obama just promised 2 billion to Soros to drill offshore in Brazil

Not in America, but Brazil.

Soros gives Obama millions, finances his campaign, pays for the voter fraud to get King Obama in office and gets billions in rewards for his trouble.

Plus all illegals can vote the minute they step onto US soil IMO.

Sooooooooooo...................if there are 3000 Brazilians on MV and even 50% of them are illegal........
That means if they were deported that would be at least 1500 jobs for American citizens.
Oh wait, too much logic there.
