Deal Or No Deal? Mandelson Denies Trade Move ( Oil for Lockerbie bomber )
Sky News ^ | August 22, 2009

Lord Mandelson has dismissed claims that the release of Lockerbie bomber is linked to a trade deal - as the head of the FBI slams the Scottish government.

The claim was made by Seif al Islam, the son of Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi, in a television interview filmed as Abdelbaset al Megrahi was flown home.

"In all commercial contracts, for oil and gas with Britain, (Megrahi) was always on the negotiating table," he said.

"All British interests were linked to the release of Abdelbaset al Megrahi."

He said he had met Colonel Gaddafi twice in the past year, and on both occasions he had raised the issue of Megrahi.

Meanwhile the head of the FBI Robert Mueller, who as a US Justice Department lawyer led the investigation into the 1988 bombing, said the decision to release Megrahi made a "mockery of justice".

Tony Blair was inside Gaddafys tent. A massive multi billion dollar deal with BP followed. But there was a messy, unhelpful, loose end to be tied up - Lockerbie.

The Libyans made it clear; if Al Megrahi came home, things would be much easier for British diplomats or business people who might want to pass through Tripoli.

The British can now expect that doing business in Libya will become easier. On the energy front this is of enormous importance. The UK, and other European countries, have been looking for alternative supplies ever since the Russians demonstrated a willingness to turn off the taps in pursuit of foreign policy.

Mandelson is the biggest POS going. He left office in scandal - went to the EU world EUSSR govt and came back to get a knighthood.

Told my wife the same thing. We are a few years out, but we were starting to plan a trip to Great Britain and Ireland, but not now. I told her we can spend that money in Poland and probably get better food.

Ive never been to Poland but from what I heard it’s worth the trip. The people actually like Americans, the food is good, prices are reasonable, the women are beautiful, and the weather isnt bad Spring through Fall.

Yeah, no doubt it's all just a happy coincidence.

I cannot express to you how rancid this is. It was clearly deals done behind closed doors /tents for economic trade offs.

For all those who are giving up on the UK for visits I simply say do not think we Brits agree with this decision or many of the other bizarre things that come on your radar from time to time - nor are we all American haters (though I have to say there is more that enough of that around these days).

I think I should start a travel company for conservative Americans who want to come to the UK and see the real thing with people who respect them. Any thoughts?

Good idea.

We often want to avoid the nuts on both sides of the pond.

You could high light on a website the safe and fun places / cities / areas to select and then to avoid. The scale could have five different colors : good to bad.

Maybe even list conservative owned hotels, shops, restaurants...where other conservative could happily spend their money.

BTW.. Alex Salmond (Scotland's first minister)has defended this treachery (he is a socialist / communist ) but I tell you what they are now running scared. Apparently there is a website in the USA advocating the boycott of Scottish products.

I have to say I think the boycott would work best if it concentrated on just one or two things that are easily remembered e.g. whiskey and salmon(ed). That's the way to get political leverage ... and maybe bring down the socialists to boot!
