I used to defend Pharma as an innovator of needed drugs, and something of a capitalist success story.

No longer.

The Dems will, of course, put burdensome price controls on these companies, and I no longer have a strenuous objection.

I really think it's hard to make the case that the healthcare industry overall is in anyway tied to free market economics. Price competition in the entire industry was pretty much destroyed back in the 60’s when the gov got involved and price for most Americans was no longer a consideration. Since then the cost side has spun out of control and suddenly managed care and the insurers became the bogeyman.

No doubt every industry in America would love the type of sweetheart deal healthcare has received. If we banned the importation of cars Detroit would still be an American success story.
