Report: Pitino tells cops he paid for abortion

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP)—Louisville men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino told police he had sex and paid for an abortion for the woman accused of trying to extort him for $10 million, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville reported on its Web site that Pitino told police he had been drinking in a Louisville restaurant and had sex with Karen Sypher in August 2003. The police report said he denied allegations by Sypher that he raped her after the restaurant closed and at another time somewhere else. He said later he gave her $3,000 for an abortion.

Sypher went to police to report the rape allegations last month. A Kentucky prosecutor said the complaint she filed with a police sex-offense unit wouldn’t be prosecuted because it lacked supporting evidence.

"He said later he gave her $3,000 for an abortion."

It costs that much for an abortion? No wonder Tiller the Baby Killer was able to send so much to the DNC.

‘Three large’ for an abortion? Aside from being a repugnant act, the price tag does seem a little steep...

It must have been very late term so they had to make sure that the little baby organs and limbs were properly evacuated from the succubus tw**.

Actually, the story says that she told him within 2 weeks that she was pregnant and that it had to be him, since she hadn’t had sex for 8 months. Besides the whole thing being sleazy, it makes Pitino look like a dope if he believed that story, after he has sex with her in a restaurant within 4 hours of meeting her!!

Notre Dame loves abortionists - The Fighting (for abortionists & islamists) Irish will love Pitino.

It’s really a shame that men get caught up in situations like this, which can easily destroy their lives and the lives of their families. Men should really realize that getting drunk with random women in bars and then sleeping with normally leads to no good.

Women can have second thoughts or concerns or ulterior motives...leads to lawsuits, criminal cases or worse. Lives ruined. And I’m a woman and saying this - I’ve seen it a many times.

She may have lied about being pregnant, but Pitino is a slimebal for screwing a woman he didn’t even know. Wonder how many other times he’s done it. A guy in a position like his doesn’t just “slip up” one time.

Does L’ville play Kentucky in Lexington this year. If so, it could be interesting.

‘No good guy/gal in this story. Both worthless louses.’

I’m disappointed to see that Pitino went this route. I remember when he was coaching Providence in the NCAA Tournament several years ago. He had a very, very young child - a baby son, I think - who passed away around tournament time. He stayed with his team until they were finally eliminated from the tourney before he went home to mourn and bury his child. After losing a child in such a tragic way, it’s unfortunate that he was involved in the premeditated death of another...

Does anyone know where his wife is at. She has disappeared all of a sudden.

Probably completely embarrassed and angry; if my husband did this, I’d “disappear” for a while too.

Well, his bio may give us some clues...

"Their son's death was not the last tragedy for Rick and Joanne. Both were especially hard-hit by 9/11, as Joanne's brother and Rick's closest friend, Billy Minardi, was working as a bond trader for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 105th floor of the north tower of the World Trade Center when it was struck by American Airlines Flight 11. Since 2002, UofL has designated a December home game as the Billy Minardi Classic, and the university named a dorm on campus as "Billy Minardi Hall". Only a few months earlier, another brother-in-law of Rick, Don Vogt, was killed after being hit by a New York City cab."

Clearly his experiences left him rudderless. It takes a good pastor to get a man through stuff like this.

There is a guy that runs this fan forum for the college football team I follow who received a frantic call from his wife that their 16 year son had just gotten killed in an auto accident. While she was speaking with him on the cell while she was driving a car ran a red light, hit her and killed her.

Life can be very cruel.

Whatever. While I feel sorry for neither in this dumb situation, filing a fake rape charge should be treated as a serious crime.
He should haul her pathetic ass in court for that one. If guilty, she should do jailtime.
Sounds to me like she was trying to shake him down for way more than 3000 and he refused to pay her more. Wonder if she really was really pregnant or the baby truely his.

its not picnic for the woman either.....how low of esteem must one have to have sex with someone you just met, in a restarant of all places...pretty low....

I have no sympathy for the men....

but I get very angry with women having sexual encounters with known married men.....like the woman/women with the dope who's the father of the 8 children...."kate and what's his name"....

its adultery....its shameful...its a health risk....it makes you feel like a cheat and a piece of trash...and then there's the prospect of producing a little one.....

I always thought Pitino was a "crib to casket" Catholic, so I am shocked about this whole thing...

Totally agree. Esp about the Jon and Kate garbage - but I guess that’s a topic for another time! What trashy nonsense, and obviously none of them have enough brain cells to realize that their kids are going to grow up one day and see this crap. If they haven’t already. The whole thing is sickening.

Unfortunately many women seek out wealthy men to do this kind of “shake down” with. It’s pathetic. It’s what I think prob happened to Ben Roethlesberger. Still, the guy should not be getting involved in this sort of thing...hello! Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what’s going to happen.

I get that she and her husband are getting divorced now, but if the husband was also bringing demands to Pitino, I don’t see how he could be any less guilty of extortion than his wife is.

That $3K price tag sounds to me like a late-term murder. If that is indeed the case, all three — the “mother,” the “doctor” and the “coach” — are killers.

University president James Ramsey said his thoughts were with Pitino and his family. “Several months ago Coach Pitino informed me about the alleged extortion attempt. I’ve now been informed that there may be other details which, if true, I find surprising,” he said in a statement.

Looks like Pitino lied to the school president. That is not going to help.

Doesn’t surprise me having watched him for two decades and wouldn’t surprise me if more of these sleezebag coaches have sordid backgrounds. Calipari probably has some crazy stuff in his past.

Anyone know what the deal was with Pat Summit and Bruce Pearl divorcing their spouses within a few weeks of each other? Have wondered if something was going on between the two; although I did see pics of Pearl with his arms wrapped around a few youing ladies in bikinis; but they could have just been fans.

I think the husband decided he was not going to be a part of an extorsion and told Pitino of her intentions.
