"Barbour Criticizes Obama's Health Care Haste"
RealClearPolitics ^ | Aug. 10,2009

Leading Republican governors seemed to downplay the statements from Sarah Palin while embracing to an extent the passion of town hall participants who have been vocal in their opposition to health care reform.

Gov. Haley Barbour (R-Miss.), chair of the Republican Governors Association, told reporters this afternoon that one reason people are reacting so strongly around the country is because they think the White House is moving far too quickly on an issue of tremendous concern.

"The Obamas took six months to pick a dog. How come they [had] to pass a health care bill before the August recess?" he said. "Everything has been, 'We gotta do it right now.' The American people realize this is too much, too far, too fast, too many trillions of dollars."

Gov. Sonny Perdue (R-Ga.) took a swipe at Democratic leaders for diminishing the voice of ordinary Americans, saying the town hall meetings are "democracy in action."

[...]

Perdue sidestepped a question about former Gov. Sarah Palin's comments on Facebook this weekend calling President Obama's health care plan "evil," saying she "can speak for herself." Barbour, who said he hadn't heard Palin's comments, said, "Every governor's got his or her own view."

Yeah, “haste” is the problem.

We need to plan more slowly to kill the elderly.

No dipstick, that's an insider talking point. We are reacting strongly to socialism not debating the amount of time to allow socialism to take over the entire damn nation.

Another loser in the Republican Party.

A guy I work with who is beyond pissed about the ObamaCare Bill says he is pissed at the Republicans too because they are “trying to dance” on this. Everyone there seemed to agree with him. Of course this was last week before Palin’s comments.
Anyway, these guys don't seem to get it.

Barbour's no dipstick.

He's right. Slowing down means people get to see what's in this bill.

Slowing down means real reform. Which is needed. Just don't let the Romney-ites take over.

Barbour's no dipstick.

On this issue he certainly is. People aren't angry at the amount of debate time, they are angry at the socialism and spending. This isn't arguable, it's a fact.

I’ve got to agree with you guys, Barbour’s a major mushy disappointment—that is, he’s revealed way too much about the RGA’s apparent real agenda to just go a little more slowly than Obama in delivering us to full national socialism.

The Romney-ites want ObamaCare to pass in the hopes that RomneyCare becomes a non-issue.

Really? No one’s angry at the speed at which these huge deficit bills are going through?

I agree. This is a mistake and wimpy to boot, to not point out the inherit problems with socialized medicine, and not just the manner in which the bill is handled.

I'm now taking my pro-Barbour tagline off. I hope - for the country's sake - that he gets it together on this matter. America needs a strong stable of conservatives that can appeal to the mushy middle too. I thought Haley could be that, especially with how he handled Katrina in his state. Now I'm not so sure.

Horrible bills are being rammed through. Horrible bills being leisurely passed are just as bad.

We need people who understand the root causes of our problems, and don't just try to put conserva-talk lipstick on big-government-pigs. Palin - as much as her resignation upsets me - is the only 2012 contender I see doing that.

And how do you know Barbour wants to pass a horrible bill?

He's likely for tort reform. What's wrong with that? If you do nothing costs continue to rise.

Really.

The protests I’ve been do have no chants that go like this:

Take more time, take more time, take more time.

Does your mileage vary?

And how do you know Barbour wants to pass a horrible bill?

Then let's see him attack the core problem with Socialized Medicine. He's got to step up to the plate, especially with his GOP leadership position.

Are you for doing nothing at all?

There will be no tort reform in ANY bill coming our of the Obama/Dem congress. I know that, Barbour knows that, Palin knows that and you shuld know that.

Yet Barbour says slow down and maybe the pill will go down better.

No it won't. It needs to be stopped. Thankfully, more and more average Americans are beginning to understand what's at stake.
