Drug industry backing Obama's health care plan

WASHINGTON (AP) - The nation's drugmakers stand ready to spend $150 million to help President Barack Obama overhaul health care this fall, according to numerous officials, a staggering sum that could dwarf attempts to derail his chief domestic priority.

The White House and allies in Congress are well aware of the effort by Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, a somewhat surprising political alliance, given the industry's recent history of siding with Republicans and the Democrats' disdain for special interests.

The campaign, now in its early stages, includes television advertising under PhRMA's own name and commercials aired in conjunction with the liberal group, Families USA.

Pharma industry is because they will sell more pills. Selling more pills aint a bad thing because then more research paid for. Of course some jumped on the bus because they thought Obama was gonna steamroll this pig. Nice try lots of pols gonna be steamrolled by smart and angry citizens going to the polls.

The protection racket is alive and well. Side with us are we will make Internet sales from out of country legal. The republicans long ago should have pushed for more Internet sales and deregulation of what is and isn’t prescription. If it is not an illegal drug, it is not the governments business what you buy and where.

OK Freepers. It's time to take the fight to where these drug company lobbyists live. Find them in their places of business. Find them in their homes. Find them where they vacation.

To quote our esteemed President, it's time to get in their faces.

Why? Is this about not importing price controlled drugs?

“... given the industry’s recent history of siding with Republicans and the Democrats’ disdain for special interests.”

Ha ha ha. Barf. Democrats disdain? What a joke. The only special interests they disdain are the ones which support Republicans.

Well, well, well. It turns out that Pharma Research and Manufacturers is run by our old friend Billy Tauzin, a Democrat.

I expect the health bureaucracy to carefully manage what kinds of pills the pharmaceutical companies will be allowed to develop. I expect they’d be asked to look into better NSAIDs to reduce the number of joint replacements. But would they be allowed to develop chemo treatments that extend life and its quality but do not offer cure?

This is odd. I would expect ObamaCare to short the drug industry on funds for patented drugs. 50 cents for a wonder drug.

Apparently, this is not so. We need to follow the money. What does big pharma hope to reap from ObamaCare? Inquiring minds want to know.

The protection racket is alive and well.

Exactly. The federal government will do for health care what it did for the home mortgage market. In the home mortgage market, congress forced banks to make home loans to people with no money down, no credit worthiness, and no proof of income. And then the government guaranteed the loans. Home prices soared in the biggest credit bubble in history. And then it burst, sending us into a severe recession when deadbeats could not pay back their loans.

The federal government will do the same thing to health care. It will be a huge mess and the cost of care will soar, until the whole system will collapse upon itself.

That makes sense, selling the drugs to foreigners cheaper than us never made sense except if you have a USA job in that industry. You are protecting the industry, hurting the conumer, Obama and GWB high paying jobs.
