I’d vote for a 57 DeSoto before Reid. Hell, I’d even contribute a C note.

Well, if he’s a great Republican Conservative just as his dad was a great basketball coach, we have a winner. With a celebrity name added to it, the timing could be right for taking the seat away from “Dinjy” Harry.

LOL! I almost lost it. Nicky Santoro. Joe Pesci was on the Golf Channel on playing tips from the pros where a celeb plays with a pro. Nice old guy now and pretty frail or at least thinner. Very nice, loves golf, 2 bad shoulders and has a charity golf tourney in NJ.

There is a 40 something Wall Street guy who is smart as a whip who is throwing his hat in the ring. He has the money to take on Reid. He did mergers and acquisitions or something. It was not market manipulation like Goldman Sachs.

A very good development.

The DNCC will have to spend $30mil protecting Harrry...and he'll probably lose anyway.

From his web site:

“Danny Tarkanian’s political philosophy is based on constitutional conservatism and liberty. He believes in limited government and opposes the government takeover of private sector industries. He believes in a smaller government that – with some occasional help – leaves the average person free to achieve his or her ambitions.”

Sounds pretty good.

“Is this a good or bad thing?”

If Pee Wee Herman defeated that arrogant, condescending, incompetent jerk Harry Reid it would be a good thing.

Danny Tarkanian just won a libel suit against the Dem who beat him in 2004 for state senate. Tarkanian also lost (48-41%) in 2006 running for Nevada Secretary of State.

http://www.lasvegasnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=10840824
“”The libel case between attorney Danny Tarkanian and State Senator Mike Schneider was settled in court Monday. The suit stemmed from comments and campaign mailers made by Schneider, who was running against Tarkanian in 2004. The ads linked Tarkanian to criminal investigations into telemarketing companies.

Going to trial might have resulted in higher punitive damages, so Schneider agreed to pay Tarkanian $150,000 for court fees, lawyer expenses and damages. Insiders say the win for Tarkanian will drastically alter everything from political TV ads, campaign mailers, and even stump speeches and interviews.

Everyone has seen the ads that make mountains out of molehills and reduce a person’s career to sound bites and we’ve heard the campaign talk that most candidates use. But now, the politics of attack can become major lawsuits and paydays for victims. Everyone is on notice.

“This was just your average campaign,” said Sen. Mike Schneider(D) Las Vegas.

Senator Schneider does not feel like he needs to apologize — not for his long career in Carson City and not for his comments. Schneider raised the questions in 2004, blasting Tarkanian.

Schneider tried to connect the famous coach’s son to criminal investigations into his clients. Tarkanian called that defamatory and untrue. “You can’t go far enough where you call somebody a criminal and not have any basis for those statements,” he said.

With the new legal precedent set, Tarkanian says the rules of the game have changed. “You’re going to be held accountable when you go past that line of spin and campaign rhetoric,” he said.

Schneider says he was only raising questions about Tarkanian’s background. There might not have been full proof, but he thought voters needed to know about any questionable activity. He still stands by what happened. “I think it’s devastating to free speech,” he said. “We didn’t admit any guilt there. There was no apology made. We just settled and moved on.”

Mark Fierro is a political strategist. He says this case will force campaigns to go positive or else face legal wrath. “People are going to take an extra breath — take a deep breath and say, ‘How do we know this? It is according to published reports?’” he said.

That may change content in political ads, mix things up for fliers and mailers at your doorstep, and even hit speeches and interviews.

Senator Schneider says his insurance will cover the $150,000 in damages. He said he would not have settled if he didn’t have the insurance. He would have appealed and kept on fighting.

It’s not known how this new case law will affect campaigns until somebody pushes the envelope and a victim of a political ad or comment goes fighting in court. But expect fewer attack ads in the coming months and next November.””

Maybe so, but he beat the pants off of the NCAA in court. I believe he got a huge judgment/settlement.

Whatever he did, the same things were going on ion other big-time basketball programs. Lots of funny stuff going on at UCLA when John Wooden was the coach, too. Tark was just a lot more open about his relationships with questionable characters.

the guy who was corrupt as the day was long with the NCAA.

Tarks biggest 'crime' was damn near beating UCLA in the NCAA playoff's, when he was coaching at Long Beach State, and making a lifetime enemy out of JD Morgan.

The Charges against him at LB were BS and the NCAA was out for blood. They never let go until they got some.

AWESOME!!!! University of San Diego School of Law Class mate (1988). Great guy! I played intramural basketball with Danny. A genuinely good guy! His Dad sat next to Mom a the commencement ceremonies. He wore these bright red patent leather cowboy boots.

Go Danny! I have got to donate! I’d love for him to knock off Reid!

Upon graduating, Danny decided to attend law school at the University of San Diego. Danny graduated 3rd in his class, magna cum laude and was also named to the Law Review. After law school, Danny returned to Las Vegas and passed the Nevada Bar exam. He subsequently practiced law for seven years. During this time period, his father led the UNLV Rebels to three Final Four appearances and the National Championship in 1990.

Today, Danny runs a real estate business and is co-director of the Tarkanian Basketball Academy, which teaches over 350 Clark County kids both basketball skills and life skills, such as work ethic, overcoming adversity, teamwork, winning with class and losing with dignity.

Danny’s family is the most important part of his life. He and his wife Amy live in Las Vegas with their three daughters, Lois, Ava and Ashley.

At the Tarkanian Basketball Academy, teaching is a natural outlet for Danny, who comes from a long line of educators His father, Jerry, was a successful California Junior College coach who went on to obtain his MA in Educational Administration and become one of the winningest coaches in college basketball history.

Danny’s mother, Lois Hunter Tarkanian, was an educator of handicapped children who went on to become an administrator and earn a PhD degree in Human Behavior. While in California, she started the first private school for the deaf in California, chaired the state’s aphasia committee and started one of the first programs for autistic children. Well-respected by Democrats in the State, she was elected as a Democrat to the Clark County School Board for 12 straight years.

Steeped in the family traditions of education, Danny Tarkanian decided to seek public service
In 2006, Danny earned 230,000 votes in the race for Nevada Secretary of State.

Danny Tarkanian’s political philosophy is based on constitutional conservatism and liberty. He believes in limited government and opposes the government takeover of private sector industries. He believes in a smaller government that – with some occasional help – leaves the average person free to achieve his or her ambitions.

I’ve met him when he was running in the primary for the Secretary of State position in 2006.

Rural folks came away from the meeting with an impression of “What a nice young man.... but why is he running?” it seemed as tho he has no particular issue, passion or belief that was inspiring him to run. He ran for state senate in 2004.

Even better, they'll have to help Boxer in CA come up with another $100mil.

Babs is under a viable threat to lose her seat.

LOL. Good one! D'Artagnan technically was not one of the Three Musketeers, though. Athos, Porthos and Aramis were the Three.

Yes, Sam Gilbert was going on when UCLA was winning those championships, but Wooden wasn’t involved.

Problem with Tark is that he was involved. I do agree, however, that Tark was definitely a lot more upfront than some programs.

Hasn’t Tark jr. already lost a couple of races in the state of Nevada?

LOL. I would too, problem is that how many of the people that vote for Dingy Harry every 6 years...how many of them would vote for that DeSoto (or for that matter, Tark jr.) than another 6 years of Dingy?

Well, a few photographs of his players sitting in a hot tub with a sports fixer of games didn’t help either.

It’s about time for this zero from Nevada.

Dang, I am getting old. I remember watching Danny play for his dad and the Runnin' Rebels back in the 80s. Now he's running for senate.

He's got to be a better man than Reid. Heck, Marion Barry is a better man than Reid.
