The tele-town hall about health care with Rep. Joe Courtney and Brenda Kelley, the AARP's state director, scheduled for 6 p.m. today, will be only for AARP members in Connecticut's 2nd Congressional District.

Jennifer Millea, associate state director for communications at the AARP's Hartford office, said the AARP is hosting the tele-town hall to give its approximately 56,000 members in the 2nd District a chance to ask questions about the health care reform bills being considered by Congress. A news release from Courtney's office incorrectly characterized the event as being for all 2nd District constituents.

At the start of the conference, the AARP will call its 2nd District members and invite them to ask a question during the one-hour session. The AARP plans to post audio clips from the tele-town hall on its Web site, www.aarp.org/ct, by the end of the week.

TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Crime/Corruption; Government; US: Connecticut
KEYWORDS:

Now we know Courtney is in AARP's pocket.

Courtney is the rep for CT-2. I don’t know who’s in this district but I am pinging the list I have. This man is a piece of garbage. Another damn lawyer bowing to the lobbyists.

Regarding AARP and other elite and established forces limiting government reform of a constructive nature is this piece today from Charles Hugh Smith which is quite well developed for a short commentary:

These flaming socialists will do anything to destroy the country and try to reshape it in their own image. We need to increase the pressure exponentially!

The Brown SHirt Media absolutely has to have video of a Town Hall where adroing fans of Zero placcidly sit and demure to their better in COngress. If they can't get recent footage of this event to show again and again all they will have is angry "right wing extremists" who need to be ridiculed and despised (which they are starting to realize only creates more angry right wing extremists who despise the Brown SHirt Media). It is a vicious circle they can't win so the HAVE to have those vids. Hence, Thown Hall meetings that are "invitation only" and carefully scripted.

All of those 56,000 AARP members can’t be liberal. I know many who have joined for the group rates on insurance, trips, and other crap that they peddle.

I’ll bet more than a few conservatives will show up anyhow and if they don’t let them in, they can certainly stand outside with large signs and raise h***.

I'm in his district. Matthew M. Daly is running against Courtney: Daly for Congress

Good guy. Supporter of the Tea Parties. Courtney tried for his current seat in 2002 and lost to Rob Simmons (who is running against Dodd in 2010) 46% to 54%. In 2004, another Democrat lost by the same margin.

In 2006, Courtney won the seat by 83 votes.

The second district includes the Coast Guard Academy and Sub base. With Obama killing the F-22 (2,000 to 4,000 lost jobs at Pratt) Courtney should be in trouble (Dodd already was 15% behind Simmons. the F-22 debacle should push him further behind).

Thanks for that info on Daly. Wasn’t he in some other statewide office?

I will definitely be supporting Daly over that POS Courtney.

Not sure but don’t believe he has held state office. His grass roots campaign is pretty good. He’s contacting all the small town RTCs.
