Two of three hikers being detained in Iran are Bay Area residents and freelance journalists.
Shane Bauer and Sarah Shourd, both UC Berkeley graduates, worked as freelance journalists affiliated with New American Media in downtown San Francisco, according to Sandy Close, executive director.

.......graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a degree in Peace and Conflict Studies. LOLOLOL!! Funniest thing I've read in a while.
What an excellent opportunity to put his skills to work!
My guess is that he'll learn more about "Peace and Conflict Studies" in the next few days than in all of his Berkeley classes. He may want a tuition refund by the time he gets out of there.

UC Berkeley! Oh I'm so familiar with the place. This is truly poetic justice.
Ok my humanity is coming back. Yes I hope they are released but only after the Iranians have scared them half to death. These are the types of crackpots that deserve to be detained. Hiking in the area they were in is for fools. If you want to talk about stupidity, here you have it.
They should have stuck to hiking the Appalachian Trail. Wait that's the wrong coast. They should have stuck to hiking the Sierras.
